Under the direction of the VP – Human Resources and in accordance with the core values and behaviors of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, the Director of Leadership Development is responsible for directing the design, implementation and execution of staff training and development programs, practices and systems to support and achieve organizational goals.  Directly, and through others, assess and prioritize talent, learning and development needs for all levels of staff.  The Director of Leadership Development is also responsible for management of the Regional Training Manager and the YUSA Charlotte TPY relationship serving North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Additionally, the Director of Leadership Development will provide leadership and oversight to the Intern program which includes determining candidates, mentors and projects.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, energetic, a fast thinker and mover and can adapt quickly to change and lead others through change. This person will provide a high level of service to the organization and its people and will ensure that all initiatives are based on the connection and premise of investing in our team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the creation, implementation and maintenance of culture specific items that promote growth, support our Y mission, support personal development and assist in the creation of a thriving culture.
  • Drive excitement and provide energy around Leadership Development initiatives.
  • Plan, communicate and implement Association-wide staff learning and development strategies, practices, systems and tactics, including the use of appropriate modalities to best serve the Association needs.
  • Responsible for the implementation, evaluation, growth and maintenance of the Association Training Plan.
  • Assess training needs directly and in conjunction with the Human Resource Managers, the Director of Staffing and Recruiting and branch leadership to ensure learning and development models meet Association needs and strengthens talent bench.
  • Manage work/projects with subject matter experts, external vendors and/or internal staff in the design, development and/or delivery of learning and development products and services.
  • Manage the creation, implementation and execution of the Association Performance Management System to include, IDP’s, succession planning processes and maintenance, bench development and tracking. 
  • Responsible for managing and directing the Regional Trainer Manager and ensuring the TPY relationship is maintained at a high level of service and execution.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Regional Training Manager meets and exceeds all TPY goals.
  • Provide management and oversight to the Leadership Development Coordinator.
  • Manage relationships with the highest level of confidentiality and service.
  • Provide oversight to the intern program; including oversight of candidate, mentor and project selection; the management of training events; the monitoring intern performance and mentors; the development of processes and tools to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the program.
Educational Background: 
Four-year degree in business, or Human Resources management.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in leadership development or providing leadership to a staff team.
  • A strong background in leadership development and training strategies.
  • Successful experience in training and development needs analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Strong skills managing significant change management to support culture and organizational change.
  • Experience with multi-location entities.
  • Coaching experience/certification preferred.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload and juggle conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to influence and direct all levels of staff and volunteers.
  • Professional approach including being a team player and being service focused.
  • Excellent listening, speaking and presentation skills.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $54,081.00 - $67,602.00
