The Development Director provides management-level leadership for the development, oversight, execution and monitoring of a diversified, comprehensive development plan that is aligned with the Association's strategic plan.  Supervisory responsibilities include development staff and volunteers.  The Development Director's reporting relationship is directly to the Executive Director of the Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Build understanding for the Alzheimer's Association, its research, programs and services in all communications with current and potential donors.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Board volunteers to position the chapter and its program(s) for fund development opportunities.
  • Actively participate in the chapter's management team to ensure effective integration of strategic directions into development work plan.
  • Ensure that periodic and accurate reports are provided to the Executive Director as requested.
  • Manage the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship process for donors and prospects.
  • Provide leadership in developing the chapter's fundraising program to ensure a diverse revenue stream using all appropriate fund raising vehicles including planned giving, memorials, corporate sponsorships, major and planned gifts, and special events.
  • Cultivate prospects and current donors in the areas of major gifts, planned giving corporations and foundations support for the chapter.  Collaborate with national staff in combined fundraising efforts as appropriate.
  • Ensure that donor directions are met and that all fundraising activities meet the highest ethical standards.
  • Develop, organize, lead, present and otherwise support planned giving; including, though not limited to seminars, conference, meetings for donors, professional advisors, wealth management companies, attorneys, CPAs and other financial professionals.
  • Manage the development and implementation of a comprehensive donor database. 
  • Assure compliance with all Association policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements; promote Association-wide programs and initiatives.
  • Review and monitor revenue accounting and reporting systems in a timely manner.
  • Maximize revenues at the lowest possible expense; develop and implement a development work plan to work within budget.
  • Represent the Association at public events, conferences, workshops and media events.
  • Work effectively with groups and individuals from diverse background and work to ensure inclusiveness in all Association activities.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and coach chapter development staff and volunteers.

Skills/Experience: 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. 
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Proven success in making fundraising requests of individuals and groups, and meeting fund development goals.
  • Prior experience in strategic planning and budget development and management required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Basic knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Prior experience with Results Plus, Kintera or Raiser's Edge preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with minimal supervision required.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, delegate and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail required.
  • Exemplifies initiative and is flexible when faced with competing demands.
  • Ability to produce various professional communications, including emails and flyers required.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of personalities in a positive manner. 
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to safely and comfortable lift 25lbs.

Working Conditions:

Normal office environment.  Must have a car and a valid  driver's license for travel throughout the chapter territory.  Must be available to work irregular or extended hours for meetings and events.
