Teach for America - South Carolina is in the midst of an unprecedented organizational transformation period to catapult its level of impact and measurable outcomes to record setting heights.  The first step in this process is to identify and secure entrepreneurial and strategically-oriented talent to lead the organization forward. The Manager, Alumni Engagement will leverage and expand the leadership capacity and reach of our over growing alumni community in South Carolina - both inside and outside of schools - to bring about the systemic change necessary for our students to achieve at the highest level. The Manager, Alumni Engagement will be responsible for developing relationships with our current alumni; providing a powerful and effective transition from being a corps member to an alum in this movement for educational equity; identifying and/or creating leadership opportunities for alumni and matching them to these opportunities; and facilitating connections between alumni, Teach For America, and the broader community. The Manager, Alumni Engagement will report to the Education Advocacy and Systems Transformation (EAST) team leader.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Strategy and outreach (35%)

  • In collaboration with the EAST team, develop goals and strategic plan to achieve breakthrough results according to local and national standards
  • Execute strategic plan, achieve goals, and operationalize the many work streams of the Manager, Alumni Engagement
  • Meet individually with second-year corps members and alumni monthly to share resources and tools to assist with short and long-term career goals, coach along career paths, provide opportunities to connect corps members and alumni, and motivate corps members and alumni to take action
  • Develop strategies to effectively lead established programs such as giving campaigns, alumni feedback surveys and others as developed by the national and local teams in support of the goal to maximize the power of the South Carolina alumni base

 Community and Leadership Network (35%)

  • Collaborate with the Leadership Development team to induct second year corps members into the alumni community
  • Strategically plan events to provide alumni with opportunities to connect with each other and community members/partners
  • Develop relationships with organizations and partners throughout the community, including but not limited to, universities, community organizations and corporations
  • Collaborate with the national Alumni Affairs team and local organizations to identify and/or create opportunities (such as pipeline programs or fellowships) for alumni to pursue leadership pathways both inside and outside of schools in our rural and urban communities; manage the execution of these diverse leadership pipelines

 Data management & Systems (10%)

  • Utilize Salesforce and other data management systems to accurately report and track alumni progress toward career goals, monitor levels of involvement with Teach For America and make data-based decisions regarding strategic priorities.
  • Create internal systems and processes to support the long-term advancement of the priorities outlined above.
  • Respond to data requests from regional and national staff members and communicate accurate information regarding our alumni work in South Carolina

South Carolina Regional Team Responsibilities (20%)

  • All team members meet submission requirements for reimbursements (monthly), timesheets (weekly), and American Express reports (monthly, as needed) to support the organization’s financial standing
  • Participate in regional matriculation and selection efforts
  • Participate in and complete Staff Meeting pre-work and attending monthly regional meetings
  • Support and participate in regional events
  • Drive own professional development with support from manager and others to include mandatory PD requirements of the region (i.e.: Racial Equity Institute trainings)
  • Engage in community opportunities that have personal meaning/connection
  • Understand and effectively communicate Teach For America-South Carolina’s programmatic initiatives, goals, and impact externally and internally.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree required 
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience required, with at least 1 year of success experiencing providing career guidance or career professional development to others

Work Demands:

  • Must work from Teach For America office in Charleston
  • Ability to travel nationally occasionally throughout the year
  • Ability to travel weekly statewide to meet with alumni
  • Some weekend and evening work required
