As Director, Regional Operations, you will lead out on operations that impact our full network -  from matriculation through alumnihood - through best in class operations, logistics, special initiatives, project management, and external partnerships. The Director, Regional Operations (DRO) will play a critical role in supporting and enabling the work of our team and our participants, ensuring that they have the resources, experiences, and engagement needed to develop as leaders in this work, thereby enabling South Carolina to work toward their vision and mission.

The Director, Regional Operations is charged, in partnership with the Chief of Staff and other key stakeholders, in setting the vision for operations across the participant journey. The DRO will work closely with members of the ES team, as well as the program continuum team to ensure that all of our initiatives benefit from and are enhanced by operational excellence. They will design and manage the systems, structures, and logistics of regional events. DRO will source, train and manage any logistical support needed to execute said events. Additionally, the Director of Regional Operations will be responsible for building and stewarding relationships with our internal and external partners, including members of the district office, school administration and faculty, vendors, and various corporate sponsors.

The future of Teach For America South Carolina will demand that team members to take a collaborative approach to their work. Every team member, and especially our Executive Strategy team members, will be fundamentally “we-oriented:” in order for Teach For America South Carolina to reach it’s 10 Year Vision and help Teach For America nationally to reach strategic goals. All regions, sub-teams, and individuals must lean-in to hard work “outside their lane” and inform/be informed by the theories of success of all other teams and roles. In this orientation, the Director, Regional Operations must be comfortable leading through ambiguity and be a design-thinker at heart. The Director, Regional Operations will report directly to the Chief of Staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Set and Execute Vision for Regional Operations and Logistics 60%

  • Alongside the Chief of Staff, design and manage or delegate Leadership Development, Development and Educational Advocacy and Systems Transformation Operational Activities to support departmental needs.
  • Design and manage or delegate special initiatives created by the Leadership Team.
  • Develop systems that ensure compliance with state, federal and individual grant compliance.
  • Cultivate relationships with external partners, including but not limited to corporate sponsors, school districts and various community partnerships.
  • Collaborate with Data Strategy staff to help maintain systems for data collection that ensure we can report out on progress and goals in a way that supports our collective work as a region.
  • Engage with all departments to ensure excellence and cohesion across the participant journey, including but not limited to induction, all corps events, alumni events, and other EAST activities.
  • Manage key operational deliverables and communicate to key stakeholder’s upcoming deadlines and next steps. Maintain any file management systems established to store deliverables.
  • Oversee and deliver on logistical support needs for regional activations.

  Execute Financial Operations 30%

  • Design and facilitate resources and learning experiences to ensure all staff members in the region are able to meet finance compliance expectations.
  • Manage the regional budget tracking process and be accountable to ensuring compliance with the organization wide finance expectations.
  • Act as a buyer for the organization to make purchases, process invoices, and other financial needs.
  • Ensure all team members meet submission requirements for reimbursements (monthly), time sheets (weekly), and American Express reports (monthly, as needed) to support the organization’s financial standing.

 South Carolina Regional Team Responsibilities 10%

  • Participate in regional matriculation and/or selection efforts.
  • Participate in and complete Staff Meeting pre-work and attending monthly regional meetings.
  • Support and participate in regional events.
  • Drives own professional development with support from manager and others to include mandatory PD requirements of the region (ie: Racial Equity Institute training).
  • Engages in community opportunities that have personal meaning/connection.
  • Understand and effectively communicate Teach For America-South Carolina’s programmatic initiatives, goals, and impact externally and internally.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading adults and teams, coaching and developing others, and diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience creating and managing systems
  • Demonstrated results in vision-setting, strategy creation, and leading culture
  • Strong/Exemplary experience creating and managing systems
  • Strong evidence of building relationships (BRIO) and culturally competent leadership
  • Strong understanding of the South Carolina educational ecosystem preferred
  • 5 years of experience preferred

Work Demands:

  • Willingness to work some weekends and evenings to facilitate or observe alumni professional development
  • Ability to travel by car to in-person meetings in various South Carolina cities regularly
  • Must be willing to work from a Teach For America - South Carolina Office in North Charleston, SC
