Teach For America - South Carolina is in the midst of an unprecedented organizational transformation period to catapult its level of impact and measurable outcomes to record setting heights. The first step in this process is to identify and secure entrepreneurial and strategically oriented talent to lead the organization forward. The Director, Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives will activate and maximize the influence of TFA’s partners and alumni in South Carolina to bring about the systemic change necessary for our students to achieve at the highest level. The Director, Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for developing relationships among community organizations, our corporate partners, our alumni and current corps members; facilitating powerful and effective leadership development opportunities to support the organization’s goal of creating pathways to career development and school and system leadership. The successful candidate will identify and create opportunities to leverage our partner base to help our corps members and alumni connect their passion for and work in education and their future career goals. The Director, Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives will report to the Education Advocacy and Systems Transformation team leader.
Strategic Planning (35%)
- In collaboration with the EAST team, develop a strategic vision and goals for the successful implementation of a corps member mentorship program and corps member/alumni internship program
- Execute strategic plan, achieve goals, and operationalize the many work streams of the Director, Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives; including, but not limited to the mentoring and internship programs
- In collaboration with the marketing and alumni engagement teams, develop a process for marketing the internship program to corps members and alumni to achieve full placement capacity
- Manage a network of corporate partners to be leveraged for the mentoring and internship programs and other initiatives related to the corps member and alumni leadership development
Program Management (40%)
- Develop and manage relationships with corporations and community organizations to strengthen the volunteer pipeline for the success of the mentoring program
- Develop and manage relationships with corporations and community organizations to strengthen our opportunity pipeline for the success of the internship program
- Create and manage a communications system for corporate and community partners to ensure transparent and accurate information exchange
- Rely on past experience and judgement to develop priorities and a timeline for the execution of programs in accordance with established project goals
- Lead other related initiatives as needs arise on the education advocacy and systems transformation team
Data management & Systems (15%)
- Develop a data management system to accurately report and track mentoring and internship programs progress, monitor levels of engagement, and make data-based decisions regarding strategic priorities.
- Create internal systems and processes to support the long-term advancement of the priorities outlined above.
- Respond to data requests from the education advocacy and systems transformation lead and communicate accurate information regarding the progress of the program
South Carolina Regional Team Responsibilities (10%)
- All team members meet submission requirements for reimbursements (monthly), timesheets (weekly), and American Express reports (monthly, as needed) to support the organization’s financial standing
- Participate in regional matriculation efforts by owning a portfolio of 2-5 matriculants across 4-5 matriculation windows.
- Participate in and complete Staff Meeting pre-work and attending monthly regional meetings
- Support and participate in regional events
- Drives own professional development with support from manager and others to include mandatory PD requirements of the region (i.e.: Racial Equity Institute trainings)
- Engages in community opportunities that have personal meaning/connection
- Understand and effectively communicate Teach For America-South Carolina’s programmatic initiatives, goals, and impact externally and internally.
- 4-7 years of work experience required, with at least 1 year of success managing programs
- Proven ability to develop and manage programs
- Proven ability to build and leverage relationships toward achievement of concrete goals
- Proven ability to operate effectively in an entrepreneurial environment
