The Stephens Family YMCA serves over 4,500 family units (13,000+ members) in Champaign Illinois. Champaign is home to the University of Illinois, a thriving Big 10 University, with many wonderful opportunities for family, culture, recreation, and social engagement. Champaign is located about 2 hours from Chicago, Indianapolis and about 2.5 hours from St. Louis.
The Chief Operating Officer will lead and support the work of the Stephens Family YMCA, a strong nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development,healthy living and social responsibility. The Chief Operating Officer at the Stephens Family YMCA serves on the CEO’s senior leadership team and ensures successful operation of all functions of this single branch association. The Chief Operating Officer will provide direction and continue to develop a successful and highly skilled Director team. The Chief Operating Officer will also work to position the Y as a collaborator and active partner in solving the community's most important social issues.
- Supervises operational directors to assure sound operations. Proactively addresses the root cause of systemic issues and provides guidance in finding solutions.
- Partners with the board and community to ensure the Y is identifying and meeting community needs effectively.
- Collaborates with CFO and Executive Leadership in the development and oversight of the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Creates organizational policies and structures that remove barriers and foster equity and inclusion for all.
- Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.
- Ensures the operational growth of the YMCA through program expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, program quality, new site development, and community collaborations. Guides the organization to make tough choices about what to stop, start, and continue.
- Creates effective, sustainable, organization-wide collaborations.
- Provides consistent leadership and follow-up with directors to assure professional development and growth is occurring.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Eight or more years of leadership experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and financial practices.
- Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA, or similar nonprofit, and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
- YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
Salary: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00
