Under the direction and guidance of the Center Executive Director and consistent with the mission of the YMCA and the policies and guidelines of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Membership Manager assists in the operation of the Membership Department, as well as providing supervision to the Youth and Family Department as well as oversight of volunteers. The Membership Manager is responsible for the efficient scheduling of the membership services staff and the supervision and training of these staff members. The Membership Manager is a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission, theme, and character development values. He/she is accountable for knowing and properly executing all YMCA policies and procedures. The Membership Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional and outstanding service and assistance to YMCA members and potential members through internal and external strategies. The Membership Manager assists with membership operations, youth development oversight, community impact, and volunteer development programs.
The Membership Manager is heavily focused on direct member service, admin responsibilities, and program and membership growth strategies. This is a non-exempt position in a full time hourly role with health benefits. In general the position will spend 40 hours per week in member facing responsibilities (front desk, tours, etc) and admin duties (reporting, payroll, etc.).
- Perform quality work within given deadlines and expectations with or without direct supervision
- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals.
- Serve as point of contact for all volunteer programming, working with leadership staff on needs of center and developing an annual calendar.
- Oversee the promotion, recruitment, screening, orientation and tracking of volunteer information
- Know and understand all Membership and Youth and Family Department policies and procedures; ensure that all policies are consistently enforced and procedures are consistently followed.
- Ensure a culture of committed relationships and engagement which results in increased participation in the YMCA by members, community participants, and volunteers.
- Recruit, orient, train, supervise, and develop membership and youth department staff. This includes specific Human Resources functions including but not limited to, hiring duties (i.e. auditions, paperwork, etc.), payroll, and employee documentation, recognition, training, meetings, and evaluations.
- Responsible for developing the MER staff schedule, and finding appropriate coverage when necessary.
- Continually ensure that all staff maintain required certifications and are aware of the expiration dates of their current certifications. Ensure emergency preparedness through the regular execution of emergency drills.
- Organize and conduct department staff meetings as needed. Communicate with and inform staff about YMCA programs and current issues.
- Display a professional, courteous, and tactful demeanor at all times. Always strive to display a positive and enthusiastic attitude and give good judgement and discretion.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of YMCA policies and procedures, including interdepartmental and organizational initiatives. Work with other department leadership to streamline all related procedures.
- Support the direction of the Membership, Youth and Volunteer Strategy team s through sitting on the operations committees.
- Assist in developing brand-compliant marketing materials.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of computer software (DAXKO) entry.
- Cultivate relationships with key community partners, members, and outside organizations to further the mission of the YMCA through collaborative approaches.
- Attend health fairs and community events as needed.
- Assist in establishing and tracking center-specific engagement goals and reporting required data.
- Play an active role in annual campaign fundraising and donor identification.
- Perform other duties as required by center executive.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, public relations and communications skills and experience, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
- Maintain current certifications in CPR, AED, O2 and First Aid.
- YUSA Team Leader certification preferred, or be willing to complete upon employment
Hourly: $15.06 - $19.00
