Under the direction of the Center Director and consistent with the mission of the YMCA and the policies and guidelines of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Healthy Living Manager will perform duties listed below, to the level agreed upon with his/her supervisor. The Healthy Living Manager will be assisting in the operations of the Healthy Living Department by leading, managing, and supervising Group Exercise Staff, Small Group Trainers, and Wellness Floor Staff. This person will be instrumental in creating an atmosphere conducive to healthy living in the group setting by fostering relationship building between and among class participants as well as assisting with the development, growth, and implementation of wellness programs. In addition, the Healthy Living Manager will provide campaign support and direction, and coordinate workshops, programs, and small group training, as well as be responsible for the efficient scheduling and training of wellness services staff. The Healthy Living Manager is a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission and character development values.This position must perform program responsibilities in accordance with the policies, goals, values, and mission established by the YMCA of WNC.

- Initiate communications with supervisor as necessary concerning program problems, personnel conflicts, and member concerns.
- Know and understand all Wellness Department policies and procedures; ensure that all policies are always consistently enforced and procedures are consistently followed.
- Support a culture of committed relationships and engagement that results in increased participation in the YMCA by members, community participants, and volunteers.
- Recruit, interview, audition and hire wellness staff to meet facility needs and improve class offerings. This includes specific Human Resources functions including but not limited to, hiring duties (i.e. auditions, paperwork, etc.), payroll, and employee documentation, recognition, training, meetings, and evaluations.
- Manage the hours and wages of hourly program staff according to the department’s budget. Any overtime must be pre-approved by the associate director or the executive director.
- Continually ensure that all staff maintain required certifications and are aware of the expiration dates of their current certifications. Ensure emergency preparedness through the regular execution of emergency drills.
- Organize and conduct department staff meetings as needed. communicate with and inform staff about YMCA programs and current issues.
- Schedule, implement, and assist in supervision of all wellness programming including but not limited to New Member Orientations/ Trainings, Coaching programs, Group Exercise, Specialty Exercise Courses, Wellness Orientations, and Personal Training. Develop and distribute schedules for all wellness programming.
- Work collaboratively with Population Health and Nutrition Department to expand services to members and the community while promoting membership.
- Execute seasonal fitness programs targeting member involvement.
- Monitor and purchase necessary wellness equipment. Maintain and upkeep all equipment through scheduled and preventative maintenance and repair.
- Develop, coordinate, market, communicate, and evaluate all wellness program offerings and services; abide by YMCA of WNC marketing guidelines when developing marketing materials.
- Ensure all group exercise staff utilize proper department procedures such as but not limited to logging in 1 x week to GE Pro, finding subs, tracking numbers, and adhering to meeting policy.
- Assist in planning the monthly Group Exercise schedule and evaluate current schedule by analyzing class numbers, cost per head, staying current on industry trends, and current monthly budget; communicate the monthly schedule to the appropriate persons. Proactively and tactfully communicate schedule changes to instructors and members.
- Participate in association and/or community healthy living programs, events, and initiatives as assigned.
- Assist with Annual Campaign, as assigned.
- Works within the Wellness Department 40 hours a week and available for evening and weekend shifts.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, public relations and communications skills and experience, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
- Maintain current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 and First Aid.
Hourly: $13.25 - $15.00
