The Canandaigua YMCA is an Independent Association, serving the Canandaigua Community and surrounding areas, reaching into several counties. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced Membership and Marketing Director to grow the membership and contribute to the growth of a quality, cause driven team.
This position, which serves as one of the top leadership staff is responsible for day-to-day general administration of the Membership Services Department for a facility that includes a wellness center, a functional fitness center, cycle studio, 2 small studios, a 6-lane pool and leisure pool, gymnasium, and extensive child care/youth space. Responsibilities of this position will include staff supervision, budgeting, expense control and income generation, quality control, community relations, collaborations, and long-range planning. The Membership & Marketing Director will work as part of the leadership team, providing leadership and direction for the development and execution of comprehensive communications and public relations strategies for membership development, retention and growth, while leading and supporting the Member Service Team.
High Quality Programs, Services and Facilities
- Promote program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing members and the community at large. Works with a team to coordinate program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and online registration. Works on marketing to maximize enrollments; and provides ongoing support to Program Directors.
- Take a leadership role in fund development through Annual Campaign support and events.
- Ensures that Front Desk Operations and data systems are maintained in good working order.
- Identifies and resolves problem areas to ensure consistent member satisfaction.
- Implement member quality standards and satisfaction survey action planning.
- Reviews memberships and program registrations, as well as cancellations for follow-up.
- Organizes membership events at the YMCA
- Supports the Financial Assistance process for membership and programs
- Advance our work in Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility (Volunteerism and Philanthropy)
- Incorporate Living Our Cause into work products and behavior
Staff and Volunteer Management
- Hire, train and supervise 1 full time and approximately 10 part time staff.
- Serves on the Membership/Marketing/Program Committee, attend board meetings and records notes for both.
- Conduct monthly member service staff meetings.
- Oversee all Welcome Center operations and cover Welcome Center shifts as needed.
Finance
- Assist the Director of Business and Finance with the annual membership budget.
- Manage and implement the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
Community Development
- Represent and promote the YMCA in the Greater Canandaigua community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, schools and governmental entities.
- Promote and communicate the objectives and programs of the YMCA through public media
- Represent the YMCA as community events , and actively participate in community organizations and events
Financial Development
- Incorporate storytelling in an effort to advance our mission and cause
- Participate in Annual Campaign efforts
- Identify and recruit Annual Campaign volunteers
- Lead and/or participate in special events for fund raising or mission advancement
Strategic / Cause Driven Competencies

- Must remain current in CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
- Demonstrated successful experience in membership sales, marketing and staff supervision is also preferred.
- Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software as well as social media and web sites required. Daxko Experience a plus.
- Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, including public speaking.
- Must have proven ability to develop professional relationships, and relate to top leaders in the community.
Salary: $40,560.00
