Under the general direction of the Executive Director the Aquatics Director is responsible for the administration and direction of all aquatic programming. This position will function as a member of the total staff team in developing community relations, lay committees and long range planning as well as the interpretation of YMCA programming to the public. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA is conveyed. Salary within range will be based on experience.
Areas of Responsibility:
High Quality Programs, Services, Facility
- Direct and administer the total Aquatics Operation, including the interpretation and execution of policies, the development of procedures, evaluation of program and operational effectiveness.
- Plan and conduct Aquatic Programs (current and new) to maximize use of the facility, support the cause and enhance membership.
- Act as the lead staff member with regard to safety and training for the entire Y team.
- Work with Maintenance Department to ensure safety, and well maintained areas.
- Work with other directors on facility scheduling as it relates to trainings and aquatic programs.
- Be a leader in membership retention initiatives.
- Participate as an “on duty” director as scheduled.
Staff/Volunteer Management
- Recruit, hire, supervise and develop aquatic staff and volunteers to create cause driven leaders.
- Serve as a member of the total staff team with responsibility for the administration, promotion, and operation of the YMCA. Participate accordingly in such projects as assigned, as well as staff trainings and meetings, core program teams and special events.
- Aquatics Director is responsible for ensuring that all shifts for guards and instructors are covered. Director will spend time each week “on deck”, lifeguarding, coaching swim team and/or leading lessons.
- Ensure all Aquatic Staff are current in required certifications.
- Serve as the staff liaison to the Swim Team Parents
- Actively pursue trainings, learning opportunities and certifications as they relate to responsibilities.
- Conduct in-service trainings on a regular basis.
Finance
- Prepare annual Department Budgets (Aquatics/Swim Team) for approval.
- Recommend adjustments, administer the budget and exercise necessary expense controls and revenue production.
- Complete variance reports and expense reports to submit monthly.
- Ensure all program operation is consistent with Association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems.
Financial Development
- Participate in Annual Campaign efforts.
- Lead/Participate in special events around fundraising efforts.
- Seek out prospective sponsors/grants for free swim week and other events.
Community Development
- Promote the YMCA in the community, working with local organizations, businesses and government entities.
- Actively participate in community organizations.
- Host at least 1 free lesson week each year.
Educational Background:
Degree and relevant experience are required.
Skills/Experience:
- The Aquatics Director must have a thorough knowledge of the full range of instructional and competitive aquatics.
- This position requires extensive skills in recruiting, training and direction of volunteer leaders and employees.
- The Aquatics Director must possess skills in program development and fiscal management; facility management; demonstrated and effective human relations and ability to communicate with staff, members, and donors.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in a leadership role is preferred.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $43,500.00
