YMCA Camp MacLean has been proudly providing camp programming for children, teens, and adults since 1941. Programs available include a resident summer camp, outdoor education, weekend campouts, family programming, and much more. YMCA Camp MacLean is located in beautiful southeast Wisconsin, one mile east of the city of Burlington.

The Program Director is responsible to coordinate and direct the program use of YMCA Camp MacLean. This role is responsible to ensure the safety and welfare of all campers while carrying out the mission of YMCA Camp MacLean.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Sr. Manager of Resident Camp, Day Camp and Family Camp
  • Assigned to be On-Site Director for Rental Groups per Executive Director
  • Market all Summer, Day, Family and Winter camp programs
  • Group prep & communication with other full time staff members
  • Skyway inspection, maintenance and training duties
  • Website management lead
  • Hire, train, supervise seasonal staff & counselors to operate summer, day and family camp
  • Ensure procedures, policies and public relations at all times
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, management, growth and evaluation of all assigned camp programs.
  • Serve as host to facilitate a quality experience for all campers, including assigned groups (Includes weekends & nights).
  • Responsible for overseeing adventure/challenge/high ropes activities within programs.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising part-time and/or seasonal staff that are needed to facilitate camp programs within assigned departments
  • Work closely with the Food Service Manager and property manager to coordinate foodservice and facility needs of campers & guests
  • Act as a team member, working closely with other staff including the executive director on all interrelated matters
  • Responsible for a budget, achieving revenue goals, and maintain control of expenses
  • Responsible for the marketing of all assigned programs
  • This includes preparation and dissemination of camp literature as well as communicating in person, on the phone and via social media to potential families, campers and or groups
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate files and records
  • Responsible for maintaining the proper use of all camp equipment
  • Work with the Camp Executive Director to learn all facets of camp programming and operations beyond assigned programs - Serve as one of three program directors or coordinators responsible for general camp operation
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous YMCA resident camp leadership experience with experience in leading seasonal camp staff
  • Previous training/experience in high ropes courses and adventure/challenge programs required
  • Lifeguard certification highly recommended
  • Must be energetic person committed to the YMCA mission
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to include nights, holidays and weekends
  • This position requires excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skill
