YMCA Buffalo Niagara is looking for a dynamic individual to work within our Communications Department.


Builds the community's awareness and understanding of the YMCA's cause and impact. The incumbent will plan, develop and implement programs to promote community awareness, and serve as primary contact to the media.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  1. Serve as the primary contact with the media and coordinates all media and public relations activities.
  2. Develops and maintains external media relations.
  3. Develops pitch stories, press releases, etc. that showcase the YMCA’s mission and impact.
  4. Works with the Communications Director to determine the content for the Annual Report, writes the Annual Report articles and writes copy for all promotional pieces.
  5. Supports community and public relations activities, including writing articles, pitching stories to publications, and monitoring press coverage and impact.
  6. Develops and drives content for the YMCA's social media, eblasts, Annual Report, and eNews. 
  7. Assists with planning and marketing of Association events.
  8. Work with the Communications Director to reinforce and refine messaging that increases community reach, visibility, awareness and engagement.
  9. Carries out other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  1. Bachelor degree in communications, public relations, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. Minimum of two years of professional experience in a public or community relations environment.
  3. Broad working knowledge of communications, including public relations, community relations, journalism, and media relations.
  4. Exceptional presentation and written communication skills.
  5. Experience in managing and writing for online and social media, including Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and email management systems.
  6. Experienced in community outreach and relations.
  7. Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and various software programs, ie., Constant Contact.
  8. A solid understanding of the Y's mission and impact is preferred.
