YMCA Buffalo Niagara is pursuing an experienced executive director with a passion for the YMCA mission and cause.


The Branch Executive Director Oversees the successful operation of the Delaware Family Branch, including membership, marketing, programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations, and collaborations with community agencies.

The Delaware Family FMCA is an urban branch located on the north side of Buffalo. The 2017 budget for this branch is approximately $1,397,000, with a dedicated staff team of 3 full-time exempt employees, 12 full-time non-exempt employees, and 135 part-time employees. There are 8 active members serving on the volunteer Board of Management. $45,328 was raised during the 2017 Annual Campaign.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  1. Coordinates the development of the Branch Board of Management and committees. Directs the volunteer activities (policy and program) of the branch.
  2. Plans, organizes and implements the annual campaign. Directs all financial development activities of the branch.
  3. Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops working relationships with other businesses, organizations, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in the service delivery area.
  4. Recruits and selects professional staff in consultation with the Human Resources Director. Supervises and appraises the work of professional staff and provides opportunities for leadership development, establishes performance standards and conducts thoughtful performance appraisals.
  5. Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of staff.
  6. Develops, manages and monitors the branch operating budget and meets budget targets. Exercises necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out and a balanced fiscal operation exists.
  7. Maintains a well-balanced program menu that encourages membership. Ensures that all quality standards and program enrollment targets are met.
  8. Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and Association mission, goals and strategies.
  9. Develops the annual operating plan of the branch.
  10. Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, program areas, and equipment.
  11. Implements branch marketing and communication efforts.
  12. Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  13. Carries out other tasks as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  1. Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. Six or more years of management experience within a child care setting, preferably in a YMCA or other non-profit agency.
  3. Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, property and facility management, marketing and public relations, membership development, and program development.
  4. Experience in the development of volunteer involvement, with the ability to recruit top community leaders.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  7. Ability to use analytical, interpretative and evaluative thought in making decisions and solving problems.
  8. Experience working with diverse populations.
  9. YMCA Branch Leader certification perferred.
