The Mid-County Family YMCA is looking for an energetic and motivated individual to fill the role of Early Childhood Education Teacher
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Child Care Teacher provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
- Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
- Ensures ongoing, systematic observations of individual children and consistently completes Developmental Portfolio.
- Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication
with parents. - Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
- Maintains program site and equipment.
- Maintains required program records.
- Supervise and mentor Assistant Teacher.
- Must ensure and maintain confidentiality of family, children and staff.
- Assists with administrative duties, problem-solving and family/YMCA communication.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Skills/Experience:
- Must be at least 20 years of age
- Must be working towards MOA or NAEYC Educational standards of a minimum of 9 credit hours in early childhood education courses or equivalent and complete within one year of hire
- Possess at least 1-2 years of experience in child care
- Ability to relate to children, families, branch staff members and volunteers
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Physical mobility: walking, climbing, stairs, standing, kneeling, bending, leaning, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time
- Physical Dexterity: ability to use telephone, computer, electronic equipment
- Lifting: ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Sensory Requirements: ability to hear, listen, speak, smell, touch, taste, see and distinguish colors
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
