Camp Linwood MacDonald is located in the breathtaking landscape of New Jersey's Sussex County with 200+ acres of pristine lake, ponds, fields, and forests providing an inspiring setting for youth, adults and families. This is a residential position. Camp Staff lives in cabins with campers or in a shared staff cabin.  Staff enjoys a minimum of one 24-hour day off per week and one hour off per day. Meals and staff t-shirts are provided.

Summer Seasonal Position: mid/late May - mid/late August 2019.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • As a Summer Program & Waterfront Director you will be a facilitator of fun while ensuring safety and adherence to Camp Linwood MacDonald YMCA values, traditions and guidelines.
  • You will lead sports, boating, arts & crafts, dance, music, hiking, outdoor skills, swimming, climbing, zip line, and other activities.
  • You will guide campers and staff in all aspects of camp life.
  • You’ll engage with our diverse camper population which varies each session and includes youth from urban, disadvantaged communities; youth & adults with developmental disabilities and youth with cancer.
  • All staff will be required to model the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in their work each day.
  • The YMCA’s recruitment process includes comprehensive training and background checks including pre-employment drug test and criminal background check. 
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Experience working with children/teens.
  • Prior sleepaway camp or similar program experience as a staff member or camper.
  • Ability to understand at-risk youth populations.
  • Ability to provide instruction in a variety of outdoor recreation activities – training & curriculum provided.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to positively motivate & lead others.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Physical ability, strength and endurance to perform essential functions of the job.
  • Certified in 1st Aid / CPR or able to become so during onsite training.
  • Preferred Certification as a Waterfront Lifeguard or ability to be certified during onsite training.
