Develop and manage the overall strategy for delivering programs and services related to full day child care and school age child care. Ensure staff excellence in the delivery of all programs in a safe manner with high quality. Manage all aspects of the Child Development Center/SACC that meet NJ Department of Education standards. Create a team of highly qualified leaders that place the care of children and family education as a high priority. Serve as an overall leader for the YMCA and enhance the YMCA Mission.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Set short and long term goals for teaching staff.
- Keep accurate files on employees, children, and activities.
- Conduct interview and reviews the qualifications of all new staff before hiring the most qualified applicants for teaching, administrative, or support staff positions.
- Manage the work schedules of teaching and administrative staff.
- Supervise and lead teaching and administrative staff as they adhere to YMCA standards.
- Provide feedback for staff on their performance in the classroom.
- Order and purchase teaching materials including toys, videos, books, educational aids, cleaning supplies, food, and first aid supplies.
- Organize monthly schedules for field trips, special events, and holidays.
- Meet with teachers and parents to keep parents up to date on their child’s progress and development.
- Work with teaching staff to find ways to address any behavioral or learning problems.
- Ensure that the facility and staff adheres to all state and local regulations.
Educational Background:
Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Ed or BA in Arts Child Development.
Skills/Experience:
- 5 years’ experience as a Children Director or 5 years’ experience working with children and adults.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification required within 60 days.
- Physical ability to move from inside to outside, move across difficult terrain, demonstrates equipment use, see and hear participants in distress.
- Experience in staff supervision, committees and in providing leadership to groups.
- Ability to recruit, train, schedule, supervise and motivate staff.
- Experience in developing and monitoring financial projections, budgets and assessment of program effectiveness.
- Experience working with voluntary boards, committees and in providing leadership to these types of groups.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Detail-oriented with problem solving skills. Demonstrated experience setting and managing priorities.
- Ability to operate computer, communicate via email, telephone and in person. Ability to endure regular physical activity.
- Knowledge and experience with computer software, i.e. Excel, Word and Outlook preferred.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $38,000.00 - $42,000.00
