The Development Operations Manager is a full-time, term-limited 18-month position designed to support the Colorado philanthropy team up through the completion of our current campaign.  They will be responsible for providing resources and/or oversight for key projects such as gift processing, campaign tracking, fundraising projections, light donor stewardship, or special events, for the Colorado Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. The Development Operations Manager is service oriented and is responsible for executing the development support functions of the Colorado philanthropy team, which will help secure significant financial resources to support conservation goals. The development support functions include gift processing, database management (BBCRM), donor stewardship, donor-focused special events and/or trips, team meetings, research, and financial tracking and reporting.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Colorado Chapter Development Operations Manager (Manager) will work towards meeting the strategic fundraising priorities of the Colorado development team by implementing and developing practices that support the team and improve team effectiveness.  The Manager will interpret guidelines and analyze factual information to achieve results, improve workflow, and solve problems.  They will implement processes and participate in the enhancement of processes and tools used by the team. They will provide recommendations and training related to the functional activity they manage. The Manager has advanced knowledge of the systems utilized by the development team and apply knowledge to managing support and coordinating communications for the team.   The Manager will coordinate with the Director of Philanthropy to prepare fundraising progress reports for critical audiences including Colorado State Director, Colorado Board of Trustees, Colorado Philanthropy Team and Colorado Leadership Team.  The Manager will execute and/or oversee daily tasks such as campaign and fundraiser metric tracking, maintaining fundraising projections, using BBCRM, executing donor events and trips, scheduling team meetings and providing general support to team members.  They will work in close cooperation with Conservancy staff including the finance team, marketing team, operations team and all individuals on the Colorado philanthropy team as well as external vendors.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Act independently within broad program goals to prioritize tasks in the absence of specific instructions and exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Coordinate projects with several variables, set realistic deadlines, and manage a timeline.
  • Liaise with finance and marketing/outreach departments to improve cross-department functionality, streamline overlapping processes and implement new processes.
  • Decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Responsible for managing Colorado use of fundraising system (BBCRM).
  • Support the philanthropy team with limited administrative duties such as mailings, expense and time reporting, scheduling meetings.
  • Manage functional activity towards program’s strategic goals.
  • Financial responsibility includes working within a budget,and negotiating and contracting with vendors.
  • Implement and manage new initiatives that ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • May participate in complex negotiations.
  • May supervise administrative, professional and/or volunteer staff, responsibility includes training, professional development, and performance management.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Work environment involves infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
  • Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
Educational Background: 
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience coordinating projects.
  • Experience generating reports, and analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Experience with current technology in relevant field.
  • Experience working across departments.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices of relevant field.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Strong organization and negotiating skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Understanding of basic accounting principles.
