The Climate and Energy Policy Associate will advance The Nature Conservancy’s climate and clean energy goals through a collaborative approach designed to build strategic partnerships to broaden support in Colorado for action to advance climate and clean energy policy.
The Climate and Energy Policy Associate coordinates efforts in Colorado to broaden support for action on climate and clean energy policy to further The Nature Conservancy’s mission. Duties include: 1) outreach to develop strategic partnerships with business, agriculture, health, and the outdoor industry sectors, 2) coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations, 3) research and policy analysis, and 4) tracking policies and decisions that directly affect climate and clean energy goals. The Climate and Energy Policy Associate will work closely with the Deputy State Director and the Director of External Affairs to develop a strategic approach and workplan.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- In partnership with the Deputy State Director and the Director of External Affairs, develops a strategic approach and workplan to broaden support for climate and clean energy action in Colorado.
- Provides research and policy analysis in support of legislative, corporate and/or policy priorities.
- Develops strategic partnerships with business, agriculture, health and the outdoor industry sectors and relevant government agencies and conservation organizations.
- Organizes meetings, roundtables, listening sessions and other types of outreach events.
- Prepares program materials including presentations, memos, and other communications.
- Works within scope of program’s strategic goals.
- Financial responsibility to complete projects appropriately, and assist with budget development and meeting fundraising goals for climate and clean energy outcomes.
- Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
- May supervise administrative staff, volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.
- Works independently, working with supervisor as needed.
- Fluency in English.
- Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.
- Experience with legislative, planning, policy or corporate initiatives at two or more of the following levels: international, country, state, or local.
- Experience presenting to and communicating with government or corporate staff and/or program leadership.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience, coursework, or other training in climate, energy, and natural resources policy.
- Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.
- Experience building networks or organizational capacity, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders.
- Experience negotiating complex agreements and contracts.
- Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight.
