With a main office in Boston and a second office in Los Angeles, CCE currently has ~30 staff with four primary program areas:

  • Support of innovative, autonomous schools
  • New forms of accountability and assessment
  • Leadership development
  • Research, evaluation, and policy
Areas of Responsibility: 

This position supervises the Data and Accounting Manager and the Office Manager and reports directly to the Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities of the Senior Director, Finance and Operations

The Senior Director is responsible for the following:

  • Managing an approximately $5 million CCE budget, as well as acting as the fiduciary agent for $2-3 million in grant and other funds for many of the autonomous schools within Boston Public Schools
  • All operations of the Business Office as well as all Human Resource activities
  • Supervising the Data & Accounting Manager and the Office Manager

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

FINANCE

  • Set-up and maintain all financial accounts, including AR, AP, general, ledger, payroll, and autonomous school funds as well as monthly reconciliations of accounts
  • Produce bi-weekly payrolls
  • Produce financial reports as needed both internally as well as externally for the Board of Directors, schools, grant funders, and auditors.
  • Prepare and coordinate the annual audit, including tracking all activity of multi-million dollar federal grants
  • Establish cost-allocation methodologies
  • Work with the Executive Director and Senior Directors to build and manage annual budgets

 

GRANTS AND CONTRACTS

  • Produce monthly and aggregate reports to ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements
  • Invoice for work completed, on client schedules
  • Prepare the bi-annual CCE/BPS master contract and review all other grants and contracts and associated budgets

 

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Track quarterly personnel activity
  • Handle administration of all benefits plans
  • Prepare and update Employee Handbook and Policy Manual
  • Ensure compliance with all labor and employment laws and submitting all required state and federal filings

 

OTHER

  • Oversee all IT decisions, purchases and updates
  • Oversee all organization insurance coverages and negotiating service contracts
  • Maintain positive relations with auditors, bankers, health plan providers, lawyers, BPS and school personnel in other districts, as well as with all our partner schools
Skills/Experience: 

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in accounting/business and/or more than five years of relevant experience in a non-profit organization
  • Expertise in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience in supervision
  • Understanding of organizational IT issues/needs
  • Dedication to a collaborative working environment

Location and Work Requirements

This position is based in Boston.

Salary and benefits are competitive.

How to Apply: 

This position will begin in late May 2019 and the current Senior Director will consult after that time for as long as needed. In addition, the current Senior Director will have full responsibility for preparing and managing the summer 2019 audit so will be in the office during that time in the summer of 2019.
