Teach For America – Massachusetts seeks a driven, strategic leader for the Managing Director, Alumni Leadership Development (MD, ALD) role. In this position, you will help catalyze the considerable talent of the Teach For America alumni community by providing innovative, high-impact professional development; developing effective strategies to retain alumni in school leadership roles; and coaching alumni in leadership roles in schools. The ideal candidate is outcomes-oriented, while also curious and constantly seeking to understand the motivations of others to inform strategy. A true relationship builder, you are motivated by supporting others, as individuals and as a collective, and will apply insights and creativity to developing strategic approaches to deepening alumni leadership in schools, districts, and CMOs.
The School & Community Partnerships team is deeply rooted in our strategy of meeting the talent needs of our partner schools and communities and works statewide to attract and retain talented educators for K-12 and district/CMO/education organization roles. With the support of your manager, you will set vision and execute our Massachusetts strategy to retain and develop alumni teachers and leaders in schools, and collaborate with a team of colleagues doing similar work across the state.
The Managing Director, Alumni Leadership Development reports to the Senior Managing Director, School and Community Partnerships.
Leadership Development and Alumni Support (85%)
- Build and deepen relationships with TFA alumni throughout the education sphere in Massachusetts through individual outreach and collective events
- Own ambitious goals for retaining alumni educators in Greater Boston
- Design, test, develop, and evaluate best practices for alumni retention in school-based roles for use throughout the region
- Increase the retention of TFA alumni in school leadership and other instructional roles within our partner schools through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and other convenings
- Provide coaching to alumni in leadership roles in schools
- Share resources and tools with the Western Mass and South Coast sub-regions
- Manage team retention data to inform strategy and execution
Regional Team Responsibilities (15%)
- Support, attend, and/or participate in regional team activities, including regular staff meetings and retreats, and regional pre-service (one week in June)
- Participate in team-wide initiatives and campaigns, such as selecting and matriculating corps members and outreach to our local alumni
- Sit on the Regional Management Team
- Deep understanding of how schools operate, from prior experience working in schools in a teaching or leadership capacity
- Prior experience in school leadership highly preferred
- Career coaching or talent development experience a plus
- Teach For America alumni or current staff member preferred
- Deep ties or networks in Greater Boston preferred

- Experience with Pardot, Constant Contact, or similar graphic design or print/online publishing platforms a plus
Work Demands
- Expectation that this staff member lives in the Greater Boston area
- Frequent evening or weekend availability required for events (approx 4-5 times/month)
- Occasional day travel to Western Mass. or the South Coast for team meetings and events (approx. 1 time/month)
- Position is scoped for 50-55 hours per week, with additional time during peak periods
