The Field Organizer is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that will lead to supporter growth and increase participation in activism around AIUSA’s priority campaigns and core programmatic work. This position will be based in AIUSA’s Boston Office with the goal of growing AIUSA’s grassroots activists base throughout New England. This position requires an individual who will be innovative in exploring various organizing initiatives for the purpose of raising awareness on Amnesty International’s mission, activists engagement, and build a local grassroots network of human rights defenders. The Field Organizer will work collaboratively across AIUSA’s Campaign & Membership Department to identify and recruit new AI supporters, identify potential leaders, and advance AIUSA’s human rights priority campaigns and programmatic work.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and implement organizing strategies in assigned states that is reflective of growth and human rights impact towards achieveing advocacy goals.
  • Engage AIUSA’s grassroots activists base in priority campaigns and program work.
  • Cultivate and foster activists led actions and events.
  • Recruit, support, and facilitate state leadership teams.
  • Identify areas for supporter growth in order to expand AIUSA’s community presence.
  • Assess training needs and develop skills capacity to help activists increase the impact of their actions.
  • Identify and secure a diverse pool of volunteers and provide support and motivation through field visits and management at a distance.
  • Monitor and report back to the organization local developments on municipal and state issues that have human rights impact.
  • Build awareness on human rights issues through human rights education.
  • Educate internal and external audiences on AI’s policies.
  • Track and report on activities throughout assigned states.
  • Assist in the development and execution of small and large scale events throughout the year to increase AIUSA’s supporter base and visibility.
  • Help advance goals outlined by AIUSA’s Organizing Unit.
  • Support legislative advocacy campaigns.
  • Participates in shared responsibility and collaboration with member leaders.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS required and or 5 years of organizing experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Experience in public speaking, training, and facilitating
  • Community program design and event planning
  • Knowledge of national and state legislative systems
  • Knowledge of global and domestic human rights issues

  • Ability to work well with people from all different spectrums
  • Innovative thinker with creative eye
  • Ability to speak a second language is preferred
  • S/He must be able to travel up to 25% of the time and work on weekends and evenings as needed.
