Under the direction of the Executive Director of Teen Development, the Director of Operations for Teen Development, is focus on the YMCA Achievers Program. The Director of Opeartions is responsible for all: decision making related to the implementation, financial development strategy, community engagement , business operations, and program services of the Achievers Program in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Greater Boston. This position is primarily responsible for driving and delivering youth programming for young teens in communities of color. For example, the College Path Program for student in the 7th through 12th grades. The position involves planning and executing educational enrichment, college readiness, youth safety and career awareness activities for the target age group of urban youth. The program activities will include advising students, conducting community outreach, recruitment to enroll youth participants, leading field trips and support of volunteers and partner organizations. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to relate to youth from diverse backgrounds, parents and others. Administrative and operational skills required in keeping with a professional youth support environment.
- Community engagement- Enhance the Y’s participation in the community and recruit committed volunteers.
- Program Development- driven great Urban Youth programming to ensure teens and tweens are engaged in Y programming.
- Staff Development- Direct responsibility for connecting with all TD’s regarding Achievers program. Training new TD’s on Achievers program.
- Must implement innovative student engagement activities to drive program retention and student success, and select appropriate resources to achieve program goals.
- Meet the allotted spots for the Achievers program. Support recruitment efforts and communication with TD’s and young people about programming.
- Identify ways to broaden the impact of the Achievers program
- Organizes, plans, and keeps program records effectively, ensure student data (attendance rosters, contact information, any and all forms of tracked data) are accurate.
- Set up college tours and career fairs for our young people
- Provides direction and support to Branch Teen Directors regarding Achievers programming, recruitment strategies and school partnership support.
- In partnership with the Executive Director of Teen Development execute the End of the Year Celebration for Achievers
- Marketing efforts to increase awareness and enrollment for Achiever program
- Keep records of alumni youth Achievers – Check in on youth Achievers after graduation to track post-secondary education after completion of Achievers program
- Participates in Teen Development cabinet meetings
- Has influence in the Teen Agenda – College/Career readiness and life skills
- Project support for the Executive Director of Teen Development
- Certified Team Leader certification with a minimum of four years professional YMCA experience
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:
- Superior Communication skills- both written and verbal.
- Must have a thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, function of the Board of Directors, volunteers and staff in the accomplishments of the YMCA goals, objectives and mission in the community.
- Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.
- Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development and our mission.
