Teach For America Massachusetts seeks an engaging, dynamic Director, Alumni Engagement on the School & Community Partnerships team to lead our regional alumni community engagement efforts. In the long, hard work of fighting for educational equity, Teach For America alumni find support, camaraderie, and energy in meaningful engagement with one another, Teach For America, and our partner communities. In this role, you will design, lead, and execute an array of initiatives to build and maintain a thriving network of TFA alumni in Massachusetts. This includes bolstering the civic engagement of our alumni through board leadership and volunteerism initiatives; propelling the work of four alumni-led volunteer boards that support the diversity, equity, and inclusivity of our region; leading on a directed regional communications strategy; and maintaining tight codified systems of data management.  

The School & Community Partnerships team is a recently formed function of the Massachusetts regional team. Deeply rooted in our strategy of meeting the talent needs of our partner schools and communities, this team works statewide to attract and retain talented educators for K-12 and district/CMO roles, while also expanding the impact of alumni in the education ecosystem.

The Director, Alumni Engagement reports to the Senior Managing Director, School & Community Partnerships.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Alumni cultivation and support (30%)

  • Connect fellow alumni to meaningful civic engagement opportunities, share updates on Teach For America, maintain alumni connection with the Teach For America movement, and motivate alumni to take action
  • Develop and execute a suite of strategic events and convenings that advance our alumni strategy
  • Partner with alumni volunteer groups to help them achieve their goals throughout the year; specifically, the Alumni Advisory Board, the Homegrown Board (made up of corps members and alumni who grew up in the communities we serve and those that are similar), and local chapters of The Collective (TFA’s Alumni of Color Network) and Prism (TFA’s LGBTQ+ Community Initiative)

Project Management and Team Operations (25%)

  • Set vision and strategy for alumni engagement and execute on aligned year-long and quarterly plans
  • Cross-manage other regional teams and staff members to reach outcomes related to alumni engagement goals
  • Manage our annual Alumni Survey Campaign
  • Develop and execute alumni and corps member events aligned with SCP team strategy

Communications/Outreach (25%)

  • Draft high-quality written communications and respond to alumni inquiries with a high level of customer service
  • Produce and publish our monthly alumni e-newsletter
  • Manage our social media and website strategy and execution

Data Management/Research and Analysis (10%)

  • Serve as our team’s data expert: maintain a highly accurate database, and develop reports/tools that support data-based decision making
  • Utilize data management systems to accurately report alumni data, conduct analysis, and make data-based recommendations
  • Respond to requests for alumni data with a high level of accuracy

Regional Team Responsibilities (10%)

  • Support, attend, and/or participate in regional team activities, including regular staff meetings and retreats, and regional pre-service (one week in June).
  • Participate in team-wide initiatives and campaigns, such as selecting and matriculating corps members and outreach to our local alumni
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5-7 years of professional experience required; significant experience managing projects to reach and exceed ambitious goals
  • Demonstrated commitment to and belief in Teach For America's mission, theory of change and core values
  • Experience within the Massachusetts education landscape a plus
  • Experience in and knowledge of event planning and community organizing a plus
  • Teach For America alums highly preferred
  • Ability to manage small and large projects to reach and exceed ambitious goals
  • Ability to track and analyze data strategically and purposefully
  • Excellent relationship building skills – ability to develop and cultivate effective and authentic relationships and engage with internal and external stakeholders in a meaningful way to understand their objectives and needs, and to invest them in our work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to craft high quality written communications and professionally respond to alumni, internal and external partners with a high level of respect and humility
  • Ability to prioritize and demonstrate good judgment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional customer service orientation

Technical Skills

  • Experience with Excel and/or Salesforce or similar Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software preferred
  • Social media savvy a plus

Work Demands

  • Frequent evening or weekend availability required for events/meetings (approx. 2-3 times/week)
  • Possible day travel to Western Mass. or the South Coast for team meetings and events (approx. 1 time/month)
  • Position is scoped for 50-55 hours per week, with additional time during peak periods
