We are seeking an exceptionally entrepreneurial, detail-oriented, and high-capacity individual to provide critical support to the Teach For America – Massachusetts development team. As the Development Associate (DA), you will provide critical support that enables the region to move more efficiently and effectively towards our ambitious revenue goal of approximately $7 million annually.
The Development team is a fast-paced, outcomes-driven team whose works makes everything we do in Massachusetts possible. Given the high stakes, the team operates with precision, purpose, and a sense of urgency to build deep connections between our supporters and the work that we do, and communicating not just our impact, but also what’s possible when we create true educational opportunity for all students. The Development team works closely with the executive director to create and execute strategy, steward our donors, and create inspiring opportunities for donor engagement.
As our team’s data and operations lead, you will support our team’s success by ensuring accurate and accessible data, running efficient systems and processes. You will support logistics, communications, donor cultivation and stewardship, events, and manage special projects as needed. To be successful, the DA must be very comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment and able to independently organize, prioritize, track and manage varied types of work and a large volume of projects with exceptional attention to detail and a high bar for quality.
In this role, you will be a critical member of one of the strongest education nonprofit fundraising teams in Massachusetts. You will gain valuable exposure to all facets of nonprofit fundraising, including development operations, donor and prospect research, grant writing, and event planning. Given the implications and importance of this work, we are looking for someone who will proactively go above and beyond expectations to meet goals. The ideal candidate enjoys behind-the-scenes work, a fast paced environment, has strong organizational skills, and is a savvy and proactive problem solver.
This position reports to the Team Lead, Development and Finance.
Operational Support (25%)
- Admin support
- Team meeting execution
- Manage and execute systems, track deadlines, and manage the team calendar to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the Development team
Communications, Stewardship, and Engagement (30%)
- Prepare and support development team members by preparing and maintaining high-quality donor materials, including, but not limited to: quarterly newsletters, touch point banks, classroom updates/data, impact one pagers, published donor lists, etc.
- Manage event logistics, including all donor school visits and corporate engagement events
- Develop and prepare packets, proposals, and other written correspondence
Data Management and Systems (25%)
- Own and manage the development team’s data management systems, including serving as the Development team’s liaison to/regarding Salesforce, our organizational Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system.
- Maintain an accurate and comprehensive donor database.
- Track all communications, actions, events, and fundraising commitments
- Produce financial, analytical, and demographic reports, as well as mailing lists, recognition lists, and other data exports as requested.
- Create data integrity reports to identify and correct errors.
Cash Collection & Gift Processing (15%)
- Own cash collection systems and processes, including pledge reminders, quarterly cash targets and reconciliation in our database.
- Process gifts as well as write, manage, and track gift acknowledgments
Regional Team Responsibilities (5%)
- Support, attend, and/or participate in regional team activities, including regular staff meetings and retreats, and regional pre-service (one week in June).
- Participate in team-wide initiatives and campaigns, such as selecting and matriculating corps members and outreach to our local alumni

Technical Skills
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel highly preferred
- Proficiency with salesforce.com or other CRM systems preferred
- Ability to maintain and update databases with a high level of accuracy
- Experience with Pardot or similar graphic design or print/online publishing platforms a plus
Work Demands
- Position is based in Boston, or one of our satellite offices (Springfield, MA or Fall River, MA).
- Position is scoped for 45 hrs/week, with some additional hours during peak periods
- Occasional evening or weekend work will be required
- Occasional travel throughout Massachusetts will be required
- Some extended travel required for conferences or trainings (1-2 times/year)
