This position will work with designated branches on staff training, certification and staff recruitment.

Under direct supervision of the Association Senior Director of Aquatics, this position will focus on assisting on the association focus of quality Aquatic programing and safety training. This position will work with designated branches on staff training, certification and staff recruitment. This position will act on behalf of the Association Sr. Director or Aquatics in his/her absence, and, at all times, shall work within the guidelines of the aquatic policies.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations.
  • Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
  • Work with Association Aquatics Directors to offer YSL Instructor level class once a month.
  • Work with Association Aquatics Directors to offer Lifeguard Certification class once a month.
  • Work with Association Aquatics Directors to offer ASHI Certification class once a month.
  • Work with Association Aquatics Directors to offer Monthly YGB Bridge trainings for swim lessons.
  • Offer YSL continuing education classes once a quarter for re-certification.
  • Keep track of vouchers and credits used for ASHI and YUSA trainings.
  • Work with Aquatics Directors and HR on successful certification tracking.
  • Work closely with the Aquatics Directors in the execution of the Instructional swim programs.
  • Observe, provide association coaching and feedback each session for swim lesson programming.
  • Provide swim lesson instructor in-service once a quarter for each branch.
  • Be available to teach and/or guard as needed during special events and partnership opportunities.
  • Lead swim lesson instruction during our summer collaboration with Save the Harbor, Save the Bay.
  • Work with the Regional Training Manager to assist in Aquatics focused trainings offered with each local RTE.
  • Assist Sr. Director of Aquatics with the bi-annual all staff training.
  • In conjunction with Senior Director of Aquatics, oversee all required safety and quality training, drills, and documentation.
  • Partner with HR for special recruitment events.
  • Remain current in required and voluntary training in order to promote growth of mind and spirit and character values for all.
  • All other duties as assigned or needed.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Must have YSLI and YSLT and YLGI certifications.
  • At least two years experience in instruction and management of a wide variety of Aquatics programs and pool maintenance.
  • An average of a 4.0 or higher on all YUSA trainings.
  • Experience supervising staff and developing pool schedules and class schedules, as well as good member relation and staff relation skills.
  • Must be aware of YMCA movement and trends in the aquatic field and must continue to enhance his/her knowledge in YMCA Aquatic Management and certifications.
