The After School Site Director/Camp Program Director is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations at a Boston Public School After School Program in Roxbury and camp programming at the Roxbury Day Camp. Responsibilities include planning, coordination, and supervision of the program to ensure that families receive quality services which provide for growth in academics, social emotional development, and health and wellness. In addition, he/she ensures focus on programming that promotes healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development. The Site Director reports to a Multi-Site Director based out of the Dorchester YMCA Branch.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversee the daily operation of the After School Program at a given site(s) under the guidance of the Multi-Site Director.
  • Oversee the daily programming operations at the Dorchester YMCA Day Camp.
  • Actively work to build and maintain strong family, community, and school relationships.
  • Provide leadership to Group Educators at an assigned site in the areas of: child supervision, youth programming, and parent relationships.
  • Lead Group Educators in planning and implementing a holistic curriculum for a given site or sites that reflects Y values.
  • Role model acceptable behaviors and decision-making for participants and peers.
  • Actively participate in all related meetings, in-services, trainings, and activities.
  • Utilize appropriate guidance and developmental techniques with participants to create an orderly environment that is conducive to learning and child safety.
  • Provide substitute coverage to other sites on an as needed basis.
  • Enforce and support the policies contained in the Y Parent Guide, Behavior Management Guide, and Staff Handbook.
  • Implement and expand all Y curriculum and evaluation standards.
  • Coordinate and submit logistical needs for a site around supplies, staffing, and transportation.
  • Evaluate programs and staff on an ongoing basis and make recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
  • Attend at least 20 hours of Y-provided training per calendar year and lead one training session per year.
  • Serve as the key person responsible for child safety and risk mitigation at a given site.
Educational Background: 
4-year college degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Director qualified by Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations
  • Must be motivated, energetic, punctual, responsible, and exhibit a positive attitude to be an excellent role model for children and staff members
  • Ability to lead, teach, and interact with parents, staff, teachers, children, and the school community
  • Experience with the MA Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) and related assessment materials
  • Full commitment to the mission/philosophy of the YMCA
  • Knowledge of and ability to facilitate Early Education & Care (EEC) regulations
  • Excitement and positive attitude toward working with children
  • Dedication to the pursuit of education (for self and students)
  • Degree in a related field preferred
