Come join the East Boston YMCA as an Afterschool Site Director. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary based on skills and experience. This position is located at a Boston Public School site.

The Site Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations for a designated afterschool program, including planning, coordination, and supervision of the program to ensure that families receive quality services which provide for growth in academics, social emotional development, and health and wellness.  In addition, he/she ensures focus on programming that promotes healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.  The Site Director reports to a Program Administrator connected to a branch location of the YMCA of Greater Boston.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Administration & Management

A typical shift includes administrative hours between 9:30am – 11:00am, integration into the school day between 11:00-2:30, and the afterschool program from 3:00pm - 6:00pm.

  • Plan, schedule, and implement structured, high-quality programming that aligns with school day learning
  • Translate EEC state regulations into daily practices and program policies
  • Ensure the use of positive behavior guidance among program staff members
  • Lead enrollment, recruitment, and retention of students & families
  • With the administrator is responsible for hiring, training, orientation, supervision, and professional development of program staff
  • Monitor attendance, staff hours, and secure central delivery of program fees
  • Facilitate program evaluation and progress reports
  • Maintenance of open, effective communication and interaction among the programs and partners; engagement of parents/families 
  • Performance of other duties as requested by YMCA supervisor

Leadership & Communication:

  • Develop & instill strong, positive program culture among staff, students, families, and larger school community
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with connected schools
  • Participate in networking meetings with other YMCA Site Directors

Family & Teacher Engagement

  • Institute with Program Administrator a system for communicating with parents, teachers, and other school personnel on individual student needs and assessments
  • Design and distribute newsletters to the parents & school community, highlighting the successes of the afterschool program
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred, not required)
  • Must be motivated, energetic, punctual, responsible, and exhibit a positive attitude to be an excellent role model for children and staff members
  • Ability to lead, teach, and interact with parents, staff, teachers, children, and the school community
  • Experience with the MA Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) and related assessment materials
  • Full commitment to the mission/philosophy of the YMCA
  • Knowledge of and ability to facilitate Early Education & Care (EEC) regulations
  • Excitement and positive attitude toward working with children
  • Dedication to the pursuit of education (for self and students)
