YMCA of Greater Boston has an immediate opening for a Cause-Driven leader to provide leadership to the Association Facilities and Properties Department.  Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Facilities & Properties is responsible for the management of the Association’s properties, grounds and other assets, and provides direct leadership to the maintenance, cleanliness, and development of the Association’s real estate, to include all annual capital planning projects. Areas of Responsibility: 
  • This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The successful candidate will develop long-range strategic plans for the Association’s properties, grounds and other physical assets and will oversee the total operation of the Properties department for the Association including implementation of all capital improvements, building renovations, maintenance and improvement projects and housekeeping activities.  
  • Candidates must demonstrate successful experience in facility management, staff supervision/training, construction project management, contract negotiation, the bidding process and fiscal management.  The ideal candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills along with a proven track record of superior work in construction project management, facilities management and staff development.
    • Work closely with the Senior Executive Team to establish maintenance and capital improvement priorities.
    • Supervision of Regional Facility Directors, who supervise and oversee Branch Facility Directors.
    • Lead and manage the team to update ‘facility dude’ work order data base and maintain at least a 90% completion rate.
    • Lead and manage the team to develop and maintain a prevention maintenance schedule for all locations, to include serviceable HVAC, electrical and plumbing equipment with emphasis on developing programs for corrective action and reduction of any waste or excessive costs. Oversee and hold accountable the scheduled maintenance on all equipment based on the manufacturers' recommendations and operation manuals.
    • Monthly and/or Quarterly Weekly ‘walk-through’s’ with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure all standards of cleanliness and maintenance of all real estate, facility and grounds.
  • Specific parameters and scope of position:
    • $2.5 annual capital budget
    • $10M facilities related occupancy expense
    • 750,000 square feet of real estate, which includes 16 branch locations including 13 facilities 55+ child development locations, 300+ acre resident camp in New Hampshire, Housing
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in facility management or a related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience: 10-15 years of experience in facility management or closely related field.

Special skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral communication and writing skills.
  • Proven skills in construction project management, budget management and project management.
  • Strong understanding and expertise of clean facilities and grounds.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, swimming pools and other maintenance related areas.
  • Strong experience in contract negotiation.
  • Demonstrated track record of innovative thinking and out-of-the box ideas.
  • Ability to successfully lead, recruit and develop staff of all levels.
  • Possess and demonstrate commitment and passion for mission-centered objectives.
  • Change capacity.

Work Environment:

  • The main work environment is mostly office and meeting spaces
  • Travel between locations required
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
