Sports and Recreation Director

In alignment with the mission of the YMCA, the Sports and Recreation Director is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, expansion and evaluation of youth and adult sport programs. The principle objective will be to develop meaningful programs and services in order to fulfill the YMCA’s mission. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers for Sports and Youth department.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Works with Operations Director to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.
  • Ensures the development of a Gym and Mat Room program schedule seasonally reflecting in age-appropriate activities for children and parents.
  • Works to expand our Youth Development Initiative to serve pre-teens and teens and manage program spaces for maximum usage.  Works with Healthy Living Director to ensure this function is met.
  • Markets and distributes program information to YMCA members and the community.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements family and youth community events within the YMCA facility. Ensures that monthly family events are schedules, promoted and held.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events ad a team leader and fundraiser.
  • This position is a member of our management team which meets bi-weekly.
  • Be involved in member engagement committee through the board of advisors (to help deliver goals, membership and parent involvement).
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and requests in a timely manner.
  • Assists with program committee/cabinet meetings where appropriate.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Assumes a fair share of responsibilities of the administration of the branch, including nights and weekends.  Weekend involvement and supervision is a must.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two year’s related experience  preferred; for example, as a related coordinator or supervisor.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne      Pathogens, Listen First training, On-line YMCA position related training,      New Hire Orientation.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:

  • Excellent public relations and conflict resolution skills in order to facilitate positive relationships with parents, staff, children, and outside agencies.
  • Have a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.

REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Pre-employment
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Child Abuse Prevention Training(prior to 1st day of work)
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $38,000.00 - $41,600.00
