Responsible for a staff of five, including direction of a YMCA Regional (New England-based) Training Program. 

The YMCA of Greater Boston, America’s first YMCA, chartered in 1851, seeks a highly qualified, creative, and energetic individual to develop and deliver Human Resources solutions across an association with sixteen branches, 55+ program sites, and over 2,500 employees.  Responsible for a staff of five, including direction of a YMCA Regional (New England-based) Training Program. 

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Senior Vice President Human Resources & Talent Management is a strategic partner and advisor to senior staff and all levels of management on business and organizational issues.  S/he is a leader in effecting appropriate operational and environmental change that will help the association meet its strategic objectives.  Significant experience leading a Human Resources function in a decentralized, multi-site organization. This individual will be a credible and influential business leader with talent development and learning expertise. The ideal candidate should possess a strong learning background with strategic ability and experience in organizational change management, measuring performance output, and be able to recognize what needs to occur to facilitate change. A demonstrated ability to facilitate teams and groups to coordinate collective tasks, including the essential disciplines of the HR department: compensation and benefit planning, recruitment, employee relations, and training and development. A strategic thinker with hands-on style to deliver practical and effective solutions, well organized and comfortable with managing multiple priorities and tasks. A results orientation, with a commitment to action, to achieve desired organizational impact.  This leader will ensure that all human resource programs and processes are implemented in a manner that is consistent with all federal and state employment laws and regulations and with the Y’s values.

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive ‘best-in-class’ talent acquisition and recruiting practices to ensure the YMCA of Greater Boston hires the best and brightest team members. Enhance candidate sourcing and hiring efforts for key positions.
  • Implement comprehensive development approach that links training, performance review, career planning, and developmental activities to required skills and competencies for both  employees and hiring managers.
  • Advance and integrate diversity initiatives so that they become part of the operational fabric of the YMCA of Greater Boston.
  • Continuously monitor compensation, benefits, and   other reward programs to ensure that they are competitive in the market, and cost effective.
  • Provide timely and effective consultative services to branch personnel across all areas of HR and ensure compliance with employment laws, identifying workplace issues, investigating employee  complaints, policy development, and performance management including   providing guidance to hiring managers on how to conduct employee job performance  appraisals.
  • Strengthen and streamline administrative  processes in conjunction with branches and other association office departments.
Skills/Experience: 

EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of experience at a senior leadership level. SPHR and/or MBA preferred.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking capabilities, combined with the ability to execute at a tactical level, when necessary.
  • A proven track record of accomplishment in both for-profit and non-profit environments.
  • Project management skills and prior experience from planning through to implementation, measurement and analysis. Ability to provide strategic direction and successfully execute plans to drive business performance is required.
  • The Senior Vice President will be able to effectively manage and lead the Human Resources functions within a matrix management structure; experience working with a multi-site retailer, hospitality or similar non-profit is preferred.
  • Should be a dynamic, enthusiastic and persuasive leader who inspires and positively motivates others to action. Possess strong integrity, energy and credibility.
  • Ability to communicate and interface well at all levels of the organization. Be a straightforward, collaborative personality and have the strong ability to influence.
  • A strong management orientation with an understanding of how to coach, mentor and develop people.
