The Safety and Risk Management Director will work with Association Leadership to advance a safety culture and provide technical direction, expertise, education, and overall strategic safety and health guidance. The Safety and Risk Management Director will oversee accident investigations, ensure regulatory compliance, hazard identification and elimination and/or abatement, tracking of hazards, and will communicate to Leadership the Y’s status on safety and health compliance and progress toward creating a solid and effective safety culture.  In addition, the Safety and Risk Management Director will analyze accident and injury trends in order to determine priorities of work and develop a path to improve the Y’s safety culture.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • This position will manage the following for the Association:  Hazard Communication program; Waste program; Fleet inspection, maintenance, and licensing; Contractor Safety program; Job Hazard Analysis; Safety and Health Training; Safety audit program; Child Abuse Prevention efforts, and other Safety and Health programs vital to the Y’s mission and core values.
  • This position provides shared leadership with the CHRO in Enterprise Risk Management activities to efficiently and cost-effectively manage risks. Responsibilities will include following the Risk Management process and educating, advising, and counseling staff to reduce or transfer risks.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of three years of of relevant work experience (risk management, related insurance, occupational safety and health) is required.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • Preferred certifications include ASP and CSP.  The successful candidate must understand the principles of  risk management the essential components of a safety culture,  and the impact on delivery of YMCA programs. Must have a high level of computer literacy in Microsft Office Suite, G Suite, and the ability to learn new software.    
  • The candidate must possess human relations skills that maintain a level of credibility and authority in advisory relationships with staff and volunteers and must be able to relate the unique requirements of YMCA facility management to professional services required to conduct business.  This position requires skills in the areas of training, planning and organizing, and project management.  A strong knowledge of local, state and federal regulations is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or assist up to 50 pounds in weight. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. May require ability to wear and use personal protective equiment such as hearing protection, respiratory protection, and skin protection. Must be able to meet Teasure Valley Family YMCA’s transportation guidelines.
