The Business Development Associate Director for the Latin America Region (LAR) engages with corporations by creating joint value propositions that align with TNC strategies and corporations’ business or philanthropic needs. Propositions may lead to 1) generate financial resources for LAR, 2) expand corporate sustainable practices and 3) create brand visibility opportunities to support TNC’s conservation agenda.
The Business Development Associate Director is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of corporations and developing relationships with them. S/he understands the core business priorities of corporations and is able to structure proposals that deliver value to both TNC and the corporation. S/he is comfortable working with multiple levels of the corporation from CEOs to middle management. S/he will be responsible for securing deals to meet funding needs for conservation priorities in LAR. The Business Development Associate Director identifies and suggests branding association opportunities. S/he involves appropriate partners in the field and staff at the Worldwide and Regional Offices, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues or concerns, and directs questions as appropriate. S/he is capable of featuring the programs of the Conservancy in broad terms. S/he may be responsible for volunteer engagement within formal and/or informal networks. The Business Development Associate Director will be required to use the Conservancy’s donor database and will coordinate the development of proposals.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Accountable for fundraising +$5 million a year from LAR corporate portfolios and influencing for +$1.5 million a year from WO/States corporate portfolios
- Manage a portfolio of 50 – 90 corporations, including corporations with the capacity to give/invest over $100,000, once the portfolio is developed. Responsible for completing 200 - 300 moves from his/her directly managed portfolio and support 30 – 50 meetings from the indirectly managed portfolio as necessary. Responsible for 30 – 50 letters of intent or proposals annually from the directly managed portfolio and supporting 10 – 20 letters of intent or proposals from the indirectly managed portfolio.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
- Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
- Financial responsibility includes working within a budget and meeting fundraising objectives.
- Manage assigned projects, coordinating the work of peers and setting deadlines.
- May manage or participate in complex or sensitive negotiations.
- May supervise support or administrative staff.
- Persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse private sector companies who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity.
- Travel frequently.
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.
- 5 years of experience in the corporate sector or an equivalent combination.
- Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with corporate executives.
- Experience in securing deals of $25,000 or more.
- Experience in managing and tracking multiple corporate deals.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.
- Fluency in English and Spanish or Portuguese.
