This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Volunteer Coordinator at the YMCA of South Palm Beach County intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also recruiting, placing and tracking volunteers within the Y.

Ideal for someone interested in a 30 hour work week.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Works with others to determine current needs for volunteers and to develop strategies for volunteer recruitment and placement.
  • Recruits diverse volunteer pools across multiple dimensions of diversity. Screens volunteers and forwards copies of applications to appropriate supervisors. Onboard and develops volunteers for success. Recognizes volunteer contributions. Ensures volunteers get appropriate training and support from appropriate staff.
  • Identifies and builds relationships with internal and/or external partners or key stakeholders (e.g., community organizations, high schools and colleges) to support programs or projects.
  • Maintains volunteer files, tracks and reports volunteer hours, and generates volunteer reports on a regular and consistent basis. Works with the Human Resources Director to facilitate background checks. Properly tracks and reports all related documentation on each volunteer (including Federal and State compliance).
  • Develop and implement a tracking system for all volunteers. Maintain statistical information, hours, volunteer contact information, expertise, certifications, background checks, etc.
  • Interviews, screens and assigns all volunteers to each department on an as needed basis. Helps coordinate a list of project requiring volunteer support.
  • Represents, promotes and coordinates the Volunteer Program, including Togetherhood throughout the community and Association.
  • Coordinates volunteer stewardship and recognition events:  Volunteer of the Month awards, Annual Volunteer Recognition event, Holiday party, etc.  Recognizes volunteers through written and verbal communication as well as through formal community recognition programs.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • One to two years of related experience preferred (e.g., as a coordinator of people or activities).
  • Ability to use typical business software and office equipment.
  • Understanding of the role of volunteerism within the YMCA.

EFFECT ON END RESULT:

  • The YMCA will have enhanced programming and services as a result of the work of the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Staff will increase involvement of volunteers in each department.
  • The Volunteer Program, including Togetherhood, will prove to be a vital component of the YMCA.
  • The number of volunteers actively engaged in the Annual Giving Campaign will increase resulting in improved volunteer and gift/pledge retention.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $43,000.00
