This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Serves as a member of the Davis Family YMCA Leadership Team and in coordination with the Senior Aquatic Director, directs and supervises staff, program activities and facilities to meet the needs of YMCA members and the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.  Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA Aquatic Programs including swim lessons, water fitness, competitive swim team, and special events as well as oversee all aquatic staff and manages indoor and outdoor pool operations.

The Davis Family YMCA has an indoor aquatic facility with a lap pool, recreational pool, whirl pool and warm water therapy pool and an outdoor facility with a lap pool and recreational pool. The aquatic team consists of 55 part time year round staff of lifeguards, swim instructors, and water fitness instructors, with an additional 30 staff during the outdoor season that serves over 16,000 members. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Serves on the Davis Family YMCA Leadership Team and attends Team Leader in-services, meetings, and planning sessions.  Participates in planning and delivery of Association and/or Branch special events, acts as Director on Duty for building coverage on assigned nights and/or weekends.   

  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT—Delivers quality programs including; planning, scheduling, delivery, data collection and improvement; monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs. Complete assigned reports.
  • TALENT MANAGEMENT—Recruits, hires, on-boards, trains, develops, schedules, engages, directs, and recognize staff and volunteers as needed. Ensures that staff maintain certifications; maintains certification and in-service reports. Completes payroll. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops methods to motivate staff. Leads and developing monthly and Quarterly Departmental In-services.
  • FACILITY MANAGEMENT—Coordinates use of facilities for program activities; ensures a safe, clean, and productive environment. Assures the cleanliness of the indoor and outdoor aquatic areas and maintenance of equipment. Records and reports all needed maintenance or repairs; repair as directed.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT—Oversees daily aquatic program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and procedures, including child abuse prevention, emergencies, medical, facility use, aquatic safety, and disciplinary situations; completes and follows up on Incident Reports.
  • FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT—Manages program budget to ensure revenue/expense and program services goals are achieved. Manages Y’s resources responsibly and sustains the Y’s non-profit business model to ensure revenue/expense and program service goals are achieved. Completes variance reports.
  • MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT & RETENTION—Assists in recruiting and engaging new members. Maintains retention through high quality staff, programs & services, and facility maintenance and cleanliness.
  • MEMBER SERVICE & ENGAGEMENT—Acts intentionally to connect people with the Y cause through our service and engagement principles; Welcome, Connect, Support, Invite; leads staff to create a culture of service and engagement. Creates atmosphere where friendship, achievement, and belonging are developed in programs and department.
  • MISSION & CAUSE ADVANCEMENT—Leads assigned responsibilities in YMCA fund raising activities and special events; recruits and engages volunteers and donors.
  • MARKETING –Works with Marketing Team in the marketing and distribution of YMCA branded program information and collateral; follows all marketing procedures and policies.
  • RELATIONSHIP BUILDING— Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Responds to all inquiries, emails, messages and complaints in timely manner.
  • COLLABORATION—Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred, required within two years of hire
  • Three-five years related experience preferred
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Strong management skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Listens and expresses effectively and in a way that engages, inspires, and builds commitment to the Y’s cause.
  • Computer and technology skills.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $43,000.00
