Under the direction of the Youth and Sports program director, the sports coordinator is responsible for the administration, supervision, instruction, and direction of the Sports Department which includes leagues, camps, and special events.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the scheduling, supervising, hiring, and evaluating for youth, adult, and camp sports staff.
  • Lead staff and volunteer meetings.
  • Accountable for the inventory and maintenance of sport equipment.
  • Ensure the safety of participants and staff at all times.
  • Responsible for large summer sports camp programs; act as lead counselor along with overall organization of the camps.
  • Promote sports programs to schools, youth groups, businesses, and surrounding   communities.
  • Serve as parent contact during youth sports seasons, coaching when necessary.
  • Assist with Spring Run, Corporate Challenge, and other special events.
  • Supervise Martial Arts staff.
  • Responsible for the financial management of the revenue and expenses related to the department
  • Coordinate all Adult Sports, including scheduling and staffing.
  • Assist director in HR tasks, including approving timecards.
  • Create opportunities for volunteerism and leadership within the organization.
  • Other duties as requested by the Youth & Adult Sports director.
Educational Background: 
Requires bachelor’s degree (Recreational Sports management or related field preferred) or equivalent experience related to coordinating sports programs.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The sports coordinator should have past experience in the areas of sports, competing, coaching, or college courses, and should understand and promote the YMCA philosophy by providing a safe and fun-filled environment.
  • Prefer prior experience or training in staff supervision and facility management.
  • Must have strong communication skills and the ability to relate well to YMCA members, staff, and diverse community.
  • Must have First Aid, CPR, and BBP certifications or acquire within 60 days of hire.
