Fitness Director – oversees land and water classes as well as mind/body programs and personal training at Southeast and Northwest Branches.  Responsible for the development and operation of all previously listed programs, fiscal management, staff hiring and training, volunteer and staff human resource development, facility supervision, programming, and communications within department.  Will work with marketing department to promote department programming.  Supervision of group exercise/mind/body support staff and personal trainers. Must be able to demonstrate ability to teach a variety of group exercise and mind/body classes (not required to be expert in all areas).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Share responsibility of membership growth and excellent member service by working with the leadership team to develop strategies to educate our staff and community about the YMCA mission/purpose.
  •  Set and achieve standards of program delivery that assure the highest quality programs.
  •  Develop programming to meet the needs of the membership and community.
  •  Maintain accurate and up-to-date program and facility schedules that maximize the efficient use of facilities, equipment, and staff in keeping with the demonstrated needs of constituents in cooperation with other staff.
  •  Supervise team leaders, who assist with everyday operations. 
  •  Spend 10 percent of time leading group exercise classes or in other direct program contact with participants.
  •  Develop, monitor, and budget to assure positive financial outcome.
  •  Assure that risk management standards are set up and strictly followed to assure the safety and well-being of staff and participants.
  • Approve time cards weekly for group exercise and mind/body staff.
  • Approve all group exercise instructors: hiring, interviewing, evaluating, and terminating.
  •  Administer regular staff meetings and in-service training with staff.
  •  Access and evaluate the results of various programs in relation to YMCA purposes and specific goals.
  •  Oversee the cancelation of and addition of classes as needed.
  •  Oversee the purchase and maintenance of equipment for group exercise mind/body classes. 
  •  Provide support for other department events; promote volunteerism with department staff.
  •  Implement events, strategies, and programs that reach the inactive market.
  •  Host annual Fit Fest, Y for All fundraiser.
  •  Establish annual goals and objectives for the department.
  •  Develop and implement orientation and training programs for personnel of department.
  • Support the leadership team with director on call rotations.
  • Maintain records and certifications for staff.
  • Respond to member comment forms.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive staff training protocol for all group exercise and mind/body staff.
  • Execute all program and room schedules as it pertains to department classes.
  • Conduct ongoing research through leadership surveys and program evaluations to assess the needs and measure satisfaction level of members and program participants.
  • Speak to community groups regarding YMCA programs and services to promote positive public relations and effective communication.
  • Facilitate and guide the teaching of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all YMCA programs.
  • Establish rapport with the members.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology/Exercise Science, preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in the field of Group Exercise.
  • A minimum of five years of Group Exercise Administration and Supervisory Experience.
  • National Accredited Group Exercise Certification required.
  • National Accredited Personal Training Certification required.
  • National Accredited Yoga Certification desired.
  • Possess excellent human relation skills to facilitate positive relationships with members, program participants, and staff.
  • Present a professional image and have excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
