This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Sr. Program Director, and as a member of the YMCA key leadership team, the Director of Aquatics will manage and provide leadership to the learn-to-swim program, lifeguard scheduling and training, safety certification programming and scheduling.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensure aquatic safety and risk management best practices are implemented and adhered to.
- Hire, supervise, lead, train, and schedule all lifeguards and affiliated program staff.
- Ensure necessary aquatic in-service trainings are implemented on a periodic basis and documented.
- Administer, plan, schedule, and staff the learn-to-swim program. Establish registration processes and inputting those classes into the registration software system.
- Address and resolve member and participant complaints, concerns, or issues.
- Develop and plan the annual pool usage schedule in concert with swim coach and Sr. Program Director.
- Serve as the “face” of the learn-to-swim program and safety certifications.
- Maintain open and consistent communication with all YMCA staff and program participants.
- Purchase necessary life-safety and programming equipment as needed.
- 1Administer, schedule, teach, and promote Lifeguarding and First Aid/CPR courses.
- Schedule regular staff meetings with aquatic staff.
- Work within the allocated budget
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
A Bachelors degree in P.E., Recreation, Exercise Science, or similar field of study.
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years/seasons in aquatics leading staff, programming, and pool management. Lifeguard certificiation required upon 30 days of employment, and WSI certification required within 90 days of employment.
- The ideal candidate will have a deep enthusiasm for developing youth through aquatics. A strong sense of faith and optimism and a willingness to be a servant leader are critical to being successful in the role. A fun, creative and imaginative mind is desired to continue the program growth trajectory.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
