Hazon Detroit aims to strengthen the Jewish Community through bringing Jewish Outdoor, Food, Farming and Environmental Educational programs to the Detroit region and connecting the Jewish community to meaningful engagement with environmental stewardship and climate action. 

The Education and Program Manager is a full time position, responsible for collaborating and coordinating JOFEE programming throughout the Detroit region. This position will report to the Director of Detroit Hazon and must be based in Southeast Michigan. This position is hybrid, with the ability to work remotely much of the time, while also requiring some regular presence in the Detroit local office and for in person programming with COVID-19 safety protocols. 

 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Responsibilities include

  • Work with the Director of Hazon Detroit to support the execution of Jewish sustainability education and programming throughout the Metro-Detroit community.  

  • Partner with Hazon Detroit colleagues to enrich and deepen programs and partnerships with opportunities for environmental education, immersive outdoor experiences and connections to environmental and climate stewardship and activism. 

  • Collaborate with local and national Hazon-Pearlstone team members, interns and volunteers to successfully deliver diverse Jewish Outdoor, Food, Farming and Environmental Education programming throughout the region including, but not limited to: Hazon’s Michigan Food Festival, the Seal of Sustainability program, community garden work, and developing and facilitating Jewish earth-based immersive outdoor experiences. 

  • Collaborate with team members to support Hazon Detroit outreach, communications, and community building in the region.

  • Engage in ongoing learning and professional development that is provided and is consistent with Hazon’s Jewish, Outdoor, Food farming, and Environmental Education focus.

Skills/Experience: 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to Hazon’s mission.

  • Strong event planning and program coordination experience; proven record of excellence and achievement in event planning.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including ability to work well with internal staff in all levels and departments, and with external stakeholders, e.g. heads of organizations, foundation staff, etc.

  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in Jewish/experiential/environmental education, environmental studies, non-profit management, Jewish communal studies, or related fields preferred, but not necessary.

  • Detail oriented with great writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

  • High degree of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, with a desire to learn and grow as a Jewish professional.

  • Demonstrated excellence in project coordination, time management, and organizational skills with ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects.

  • Self-starter—proactive and driven with a strong work ethic, high level of motivation, a strong sense of urgency when needed, and the ability to work without direct supervision and to consistently meet deadlines.

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs, to sit or stand at a computer for long periods of time.

  • PC proficient with knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, and social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.

  • Must be flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends, as needed. 

  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary range is $50,000-$55,000 commensurate with experience, including benefits package.
