Under the direction of the Vice President of Aquatics, the Aquatics Director will administer all functions related to the Aquatics Department with a direct focus on safety, recruitment of participants, program development, retention, staff development and customer service, communicating with property management staff regarding cleanliness and handling day to day issues that arise. This position will oversee the year-round aquatic facility at the Daily YMCA, and the seasonal aquatic programming in Broken Arrow.
YMCA Aquatics Department
- Hire, train, and provide orientation for all swim instructors, lifeguards, and other aquatics staff including payroll, teaching techniques, guarding techniques, and emergency procedures
- Schedule all staff hours keeping in mind budgetary constraints and participant/staff ratios
- Schedule all aquatic classes and open swim times to provide the most effective and efficient use of space and needs of members
- Approve time worked for staff in areas of responsibility
- Hold monthly staff meetings and/or training sessions with all staff
- Set close limits and check enrollments of all classes based on staffing and participant/instructor ratios
- Offer up-to-date annual evaluations and expectations for all staff
- Maintain up-to-date salary and supply control records
- Provide department program information in a timely manner to the Front Desk.
- Do Swim Lesson Evaluations after each set of lessons.
- Research, process, and approve all refund/credit requests for the department.
- Develop all fliers, handouts, news releases, brochure copy, help-wanted ads, etc. necessary to promote the Aquatic program
- Develop pool usage schedules for lap and open swim times for all YMCA members each session
- Schedule and staff summer camp and recreational swim times during the summer
- Schedule and staff all community/ outreach swim lessons during the summer months
- Schedule and staff a one-week “Splash Week” program once per year
Fiscal Management
- Develop the Department 20 - Aquatics budget.
- Track revenue and expenses for the Aquatics budget on a monthly basis.
- Responsible for all purchases, tracking, and monitoring of the Aquatics budget.
Financial Development, Community Development, Volunteer Involvement
- Work on the United Way Campaign.
- Be the staff liaison to a division of the annual Strong Kids Campaign.
- Work with surrounding individuals, builders, and organizations to provide services and trainings through YMCA Aquatics programs
- Work with municipalities to offer management opportunities for their programs; i.e. community and sub-division pools and aquatics programs
- Work with Hispanic Communities to recruit staff, volunteers, and participants
Operations
- All reports and assignments must be completed by all set deadlines.
- Lead and make sound and well thought-out judgments and decisions as it relates to staff, operations, and member concerns.
- Coordinate scheduling of pool parties with front desk so facility operates seamlessly
- Ensure growth in recruitment of participants in Swim lessons.
- Increase retention of Swim lesson participants.
- Increase membership retention
- Ensure growth in membership sales due to aquatics environment
- Accurate and timely with all assignments, deadlines, etc.
- Recruit, develop, and retain volunteers in aquatics as well as fundraising.

- Minimum 2 years experience working in Aquatics environment
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard Certification preferred
- Current Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred
- Volunteer or Staff supervision experience
- Knowledge of aquatics programming and safety issues
Salary: $30,000.00 - $32,000.00
