Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Aquatics Director develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatics programs.
Full Time, Generally 9 am-6 pm with flexibility around the swim lessons schedule and program needs.
- Directs and supervises aquatics program activities under the direction of the Senior Program Director to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Works with the certified pool operator to help monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and ensure proper upkeep of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels.
- Conducts lifeguard, swim instructor, First Aid and CPR training classes for both staff and the public.
- Creates and schedules swim classes, including administration of the Safety Around Water program as well as the Youth Development Center and outside preschools.
- Identifies circumstances to serve as a working supervisor, helping to teach swim lessons and lifeguard as needed.
We are looking for someone who displays the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent. 1-2 years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator, supervisor, coach or instructor. Current certification in Lifeguarding, American Red Cross CPR-PR & First Aid and Water Safety Instruction (WSI) preferred. Instructor certification in these areas also preferred. Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
