The YMCA focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Regional Aquatics Director, this position will provide leadership to pool staff and aquatic programs located in the YMCA Branch. This person will assist the Aquatics Department in being the safest, cleanest and best-programmed pool in the Birmingham Metro Area.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Implement, monitor and evaluate all aspects of the Aquatic programs in accordance with the YMCA of Greater Birmingham policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations
- Adheres to program standards including assisting in maintenance, safety and cleanliness standards to include compliance.
- Manage and develop Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, or other Part-Time staff based Aquatic Team for specific branch
- Implement designated pool schedules
- Implement Aquatic plan from the Regional Aquatic Directors.
- Collaborate with the Regional Aquatic Director to manage the branch Aquatics budget. Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines.
- Manage aquatics program/staff schedules to fully staff pool/programs and keep expenses low and meet budget goals.
- Interview prospective aquatic employees.
- Complete new hire packets/information for aquatics staff
- Maintain pool daily operations pertaining to cleanliness, safety and programs
- Branch requirements- not limited to POD, newsletters, Impact Reports
- Teach CPR classes as necessary
- Teach lifeguard classes and swim lessons as necessary
- Completing Bi-Monthly payroll
Educational Background:
BA/BS in relevant field or equivalent experience/knowledge in Aquatic Management or other closely related field preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- 1-3 years relevant experience preferred.
- Supervisory and staff development experience preferred.
- Knowledge of budgets.
- Must be customer service focused with strong communication skills both orally and written with solid computer skills.
- Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner building strong relationships with leaders in the wide variety of organization in the community.
- Must be well organized and able to handle shifting priorities.
- Successful completion of background screening.
- Must be willing to travel within service area on a daily/weekly basis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as proficient in Microsoft office suites or similar.
- Successful clearance of background check.
- Acquire and maintain the following certifications prior to start date via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI):
- CPR Pro/AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
- Lifeguard instructor certified (or within 60 days or first available)
- Certified Pool & Operator (or within 90 days or first available)
- Requisite Redwoods Online Training Modules (completed prior to start date and repeated annually).
