The Membership Director will manage all aspects of YMCA membership, focusing on strategic leadership methods that will continue to mold the department and team with high performance expectations, while ensuring a high level of customer service and member engagement. The Membership Director will also foster a cause-centered culture that provides a place that members can belong and are proud to be a part of.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, implements and sustains membership strategies for recruitment of new YMCA members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Ensures a level of service and engagement that fosters loyalty among those we serve. Provides training and quality control to assure high quality customer care at all service areas.
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures, including facility emergency protocol, and communicates changes to staff in a clear, concise way.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances
  • Lead membership staff effectively focusing on communication
  • Recruit, hire and supervise new staff members providing on-boarding and development to aid in their success.

Essential Functions

  • Implements membership strategies that promote recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Ensure utilization of all ‘Gulick’ strategies throughout the organization.
  • Organizes assigned staff to support membership development and retention goals. Identifies and resolves problem areas to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of staff functions to determine required core competencies and skills; and designs and implements training as needed.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Coordinates and ensures appropriate utilization of all volunteers.

  • Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments; and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Ensures proper implementation of all front desk procedures, membership administration and banking responsibilities. 
  • Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.  Coordinates with the finance team as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the Annual Support Campaign.
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous supervisory experience in customer service and sales/marketing experience preferred.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Requires excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Point-of sale software experience preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00
