The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking an experienced Early Learning Director to manage a growing childcare center.

The Sterling YMCA Early Learning Center is seeking an experienced Early Learning Director to lead an quality childcare program for infants, toddlers and preschool children. The Early Learning Director oversees programming providing direction and support to a team of certified teachers, developing and implementing quality enrichment, and creating a nurturing atmosphere for program participants. The Early Education Director is responsible for creating a positive supportive culture for both children and staff where learning is accelerated and teamwork is fostered.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work collaboratively with childcare teams to review current program offerings, determine which programs provide the best engagement and net impact while meeting community needs. Compiles statistics to evaluate effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Ensure programs are effectively managed on a day-to-day basis and are high quality, age-appropriate, with sound curriculum planned and implemented.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas maintaining all required documentation. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints appropriately.
  • Support the successful onboarding of new children and families to programs and plan for ongoing growth and development preparing for space, equipment, and staffing needs.
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, management, and evaluation of qualified childcare and education teams, maintaining appropriate adult to child ratios during programming.
  • Ensure that all staff have the support and tools needed to deliver high-quality programs and services, and coordinate and conduct regular staff training.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Director of Operations in preparing annual budget for the local Y. Monitor approved budget and take appropriate action to correct variances. Follow all fiscal policies regarding cash, vouchers, purchase orders, etc.
  • Regularly monitor relevant trends and lead staff in developing programming that meets current needs and introduces new opportunities to the community.
  • Aid in the implementation of special events and fundraising efforts in conjunction with other departments, local Executive Director and association staff.
  • Coordinate local Y promotion, marketing, and long-range education program and service planning with overall mission of the Y.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in education, human services, social services, or equivalent preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three or more years of management experience in early childhood or out-of-school time programming, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Have technical expertise to provide staff leadership in early childhood and/or out-of-school time programs as well as manage financial aid provided by the Commonwealth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
