The Marblehead Lynch Van Otterloo YMCA is seeking an experienced Head Lifeguard/Aquatics Specialist to lead quality programs and services, including aquatics classes, vacation programs, and special events. The primary responsibilities include supporting lifeguarding needs, providing quality swim instruction, and supporting the efficient operation of the aquatics area.
The incumbent for this role will implement association curriculum providing progression to the aquatics program, and increase member program satisfaction and retention through clear, consistent, effective and positive communication with youth and parents across all programs inside and outside our Y. The individual selected for this role will have leadership experience, able to assist onboard and train staff, while ensuring staff records and certifications are up to date.
- Create and lead a culture of high quality experiences and engagement by leading quality programs and services, including but not limited to, aquatics classes, aquatic open times, vacation programs, and special events. Implement association curriculum providing progression to the aquatics program.
- Increase member and program satisfaction and retention through clear, consistent, effective and positive communication with youth and parents across all programs inside and outside our Y. Personally build relationships with YMCA members through daily interactions.
- Assist in ensuring a coordinated class, recreational, team and rental schedule to maximize member benefit and optimal program availability, supporting staffing coverage as needed.
- Create a positive work environment that encourages positive engagement through clear and consistent supervision and frequent communication.
- Adhere to and all aquatic safety protocols. Ensure pool area is clean and free from debris.
- Coordinate the schedule for daily testing with the designated CPO for the association. Report any issues to designated CPO.
- Lead aquatic staff through onboarding and appropriate trainings. Work in conjunction with the administrative manager to ensure records of staff certifications are up-to-date and complete.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with schools, agencies and organizations to expand services, programs and the impact of the Y in the community. Be proactive and flexible in addressing community needs for aquatics programming.
- Remain up to date regarding aquatics trends of YUSA as well as emerging trends within aquatic programming and advocate for the expansion of Y programs and services aligned with those trends.
- All other duties as directed or required for the overall success of the organization.
- Must have or be willing to attain YMCA certifications and related permits/licenses as needed.
- Highly engaging interpersonal skills with ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all segments of the community.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Must be physically and mentally capable to maintain the skills of required certifications.
- Must be able to be exposed to chlorine and other pool chemicals.
- Physically and mentally acts appropriately and immediately to unexpected circumstances.
Must have and keep up-to-date or be willing to obtain the following certifications:
- Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid certifications
- Current Oxygen Administration certification
- Current Lifeguard certification
- Current or obtain within 90 days of hire Lifeguard Instructor
