The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is seeking a dynamic communications professional to support our mission to cure CF and help improve the lives of people living with this rare and life-threatening disease. This person will join a vibrant, collegial, creative, and highly motivated communications team, and will actively support the Community Partnerships Communications efforts and Development (Field and Fundraising) Communications efforts. This person will also help with communications projects that support other areas, such as Research Communications and Internal Communications.
The communications specialist helps manage communications projects and creates and edits content such as blog content, stories about those living with CF, messages, talking points, etc. The specialist helps build and manage internal client relationships with community partnerships staff and fundraising Great Strides Team staff by attending meetings, taking notes, responding to requests, providing communications ideas, and helping to problem solve, etc. The specialist also works across the Communications Department to support other efforts when needed, demonstrating agility and professionalism at all times.

- Supports writing/editing of compelling content to be distributed in web stories and web content, presentations, messages, paid advertisements, correspondence, social media, email content and campaigns, and other communications materials. Conducts interviews with CF persons/families to develop content, acting with tact and professionalism at all times.
- ·Serves as communications project coordinator and liaison to the Community Partnerships Departments and Fundraising Departments, as well as other departments as needed. Gathers input from Fundraising’s Great Strides Team and Community Partnerships staff, as well as other staff on program strategies and objectives. Assists in building and nurturing internal client relationships.
- Supports Community Partnerships communications, including developing and executing communications strategy in support of our partnership and outreach efforts to people with CF and their families to 1) integrate the voice of the community into CF programs and resources, and 2) create new and meaningful opportunities for the CF community to connect.
- Supports communications team members, including occasional earned media efforts, paid media efforts, content development, video development, brand management and adherence, communications campaign support, logistics, and occasional administrative duties.
- Collaborates on a daily basis with members of the Communication Department and other teams, working closely with the communication channel managers to leverage the CF Foundation’s owned media channels (digital, print, meetings, and conferences) to promote content and messages to intended audiences, and identify and engage with influencers in the CF community.
- Helps manage project workflow and timelines. Helps oversee and advise vendors based on projects vendors are supporting.
- Supports Field communications, including helping facilitate Field communication between 70 field offices and the Bethesda office. Specifically, helps with Great Strides fundraising content development.
- Collaborates closely with the director of development communications and director of community partnerships communications as well as the director of research communications, senior manager of internal communications, and other communication leaders as needed, to ensure progress against key deliverables.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
- Strong communications skills and ability to work well with the extended CF community, including people with CF, their families, and donors - and especially to “tune in” to their specific concerns and sensitivities.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and grammar skills as well as familiarity with AP style.
- Mature, flexible team-player with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and desire to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, responding to urgent, near-term needs while still meeting longer-term objectives.
- Good organizational and project management skills with great attention to detail.
- Familiarity with online communications and communities, including social media platforms.
