The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis, and one of the most innovative and successful organizations of its kind – is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our Communications team.

We are a nonprofit, donor-supported organization that has raised and invested hundreds of millions of dollars to help develop cystic fibrosis therapies that have changed the lives of people with this disease. Nearly every CF medicine available today was made possible because of Foundation support.

Based in Bethesda, Md., the Foundation created, funds and accredits a national network of cystic fibrosis care centers that have been recognized by the National Institutes of Health as a model of care for a chronic disease.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is seeking a dynamic and curious communications professional to support our mission to cure CF and help improve the lives of patients living with this rare and life-threatening disease. This person will join a passionate, integrated communications team and will gain experience across an array of tactics including media relations, strategic visibility, stakeholder engagement, and internal communications.

The successful candidate will have a strong desire to make a difference through healthcare communications; a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset; and excellent written and verbal communications skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support internal communications, including compiling content for weekly, monthly, and quarterly emails; generating ideas and content to promote specific initiatives and milestones; facilitating communication among 70 field offices and the Bethesda office; auditing and developing content associated with Intranet redesign.
  • Support research and intelligence-gathering to inform development of strategic communications plans.
  • Develop materials to support integrated communications efforts including blog posts, social media content, backgrounds, toolkits and fact sheets.
  • Collaborate closely with the senior director of communications media and communications manager to ensure progress against key deliverables.
  • Support media relations activities, including daily monitoring; compiling and maintaining media lists; supporting the development of news releases and other materials; and liaising with digital team to coordinate development and dissemination of key news via social and web-based assets.  
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Requires bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience in public relations or communications.
  • Experience in internal communications highly preferred.
  • Strong writing, proofreading and grammar skills and familiarity with AP style.
  • Team-player with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and desire to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with great attention to detail.
