Responsible for the day to day operation of all areas in the branch.

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the Operations Director is responsible for the day to day operation of all areas in the branch, Membership, Healthy Living, Aquatics, Facility/Property and Youth Enrichment to ensure branch achieves its financial goals.

The Operations Director is the gatekeeper of all department heads which includes oversight, adequate staffing patterns/branch coverage, budget management & creating a culture of accountability throughout entire branch.

The Operations Director will lead the operation in accordance with the policies, procedures, processes and standards established by the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, working closely with the Core Service Leaders to execute the organizations strategic plan, while supporting the vision & strategy of the Branch Executive Director.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, manages and monitors branch-operating budget, monthly, to meet or exceed budgeted revenue and net targets. Recommends adjustments through accurate forecasting to ensure overall branch health and growth.
  • Ensures the safety of staff, members, and program participants
  • Develops strategies to grow current revenue streams in the way of new, innovative, collaborative programming for the branch.
  • Creates a culture of accountability through the supervision and the development of all staff to ensure peak performance and a high degree of accountability towards branch goals. This includes recruiting hiring, training and development as well as performing staff reviews and performance evaluations to ensure staff is performing to expectations. It will also include taking corrective actions when necessary to improve overall branch performance.
  • Ensures the building is clean and maintenance tasks are adhered to by facility staff
  • Execute Association strategies through department leaders and develop new and innovative approaches to attract and retain members and program participants.
  • Consult and collaborate with Core Service Leaders as a resource to meet branch budget, ensure consistency of quality programs and staff development.
  • Assist Branch Executive in meeting branch annual campaign goals through engaging staff, members and community on the Y cause.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to all staff to create an exceptional member experience that drives higher levels of retention.
  • Reviews and evaluates the enrollment, programs, services, membership and operation of the Branch and identifies potential areas for collaborative programming to reach new markets for future growth.
  • Lead with an emphasis on quality customer services to members, program participants and the community

Essential Tactical Duties

  • Manage dayforce payroll/timecard approval process
  • Responsible for member relations, including complaint resolution.
  • Handle all operational issues that arise in an expeditious manner to ensure the safety of the staff and members
  • Collaborate with Human Resources for onboarding, progressive discipline and other HR-related tasks.
  • Ensure the maintenance of facilities and properties of the branch to assure high standards of maintenance, safety, cleanliness and to assure that the requirements of regulatory codes are fully met.
  • Coordinate, monitor and update Association program policies and guidelines.
  • Acts as an ambassador for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and the branch in all matters and areas.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business or a related field, or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Multi-Team Leader certification preferred
  • Five years’ experience in related field
  • Minimum three years of management/supervisory experience
  • Successful fiscal management resulting in operational excellence
  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to motivate staff, volunteers and community in moving the YMCA mission and vision to new heights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with other leaders in the organization
  • Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Criminal Background clearances as prescribed by the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh – Must have all PA clearances prior to first day of work
  • Valid PA drivers License.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $41,063.00 - $61,595.00
