Join the dynamic team of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh as an Assistant Program Director, Aquatics at the Spencer Family YMCA branch!

GENERAL FUNCTION:   Under the supervision of Executive or Branch Director, the Assistant Program Director, Aquatics is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of aquatics programs, ensuring that operations in the aquatics department run smoothly and meet the needs of the community.  The assistant program director is responsible for integrating YMCA USA aquatics best practices and serving on relevant Association committees to enhance leadership skills and aquatics programs.

Areas of Responsibility:

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and staff management skills
  • Ability to educate and motivate staff, volunteers and community about YMCA mission
  • Excellent fiscal management with strong operational performance history
  • Must be certified as a Lifeguard Instructor from a nationally recognized organization
  • (YMCA preferred).

Education / Experience Required: 

  • Two year degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field.
  • Two year’s experience in Aquatics or management of a pool facility with proven         knowledge of aquatic safety principles, rescue techniques, lifeguarding, and pool   maintenance.
  • Must have or obtain YMCA Lifeguard and YMCA Lifeguard Instructor within 1 year.
  • Must have or obtain YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor and Trainer within 1 year.
  • Must have or obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer (American Heart Association, Basic Life Support and/or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional with AED), First Aid, and Preventing Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens, Oxygen Administration, AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and related courses.
  • Ccertified Pool Operator (CPO), PA Pesticide Applicator Certification and Allegheny County Bathing Place Manager certification is required within 120 days of employment.
