The Upper Main Line YMCA is seeking an experienced aquatic professional to lead a team of aquatics staff that consists of seven full time staff, including Aquatics Safety Director, Director of Aquatics Instruction, Competitive Aquatics Director, Aquatics Coordinator, and three full-time Lifeguards. UMLY is recruiting for a Senior Aquatic Director who is an enthusiastic, experienced, highly motivated, and creative leader to bring passion, vision and personality to our well-established Aquatics Department. This position requires seasoned professional delivery in safety and quality and will be responsible for managing, supervising, implementing and evaluating daily operations and staff.
The Upper Main Line Branch has four indoor pools and three outdoor pools. The indoor pools include a new, state-of-the-art, warm water pool with three lap lanes and an additional zero-entry area with water play elements and water slide. The outdoor pools include a new, 50 meter, Competitive Pool. The aquatic complex hosts an active recreational and instructional program, in addition to a nationally ranked competitive swimming program.
This position will be responsible for delivery and maintenance of high-level member service through safe program delivery, communication, planning and organization in a safety-focused environment. This includes, but is not limited to, Competitive Swim Team, Swim Lessons and Lifeguarding. The candidate must have exceptional relationship-building skills and a commitment to the YMCA Mission and Core Values. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
- Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Senior Aquatic Director ensures the aquatics experience is safe and fun for members and program participants and consistent with the association practices.
- Responsibilities include leadership of Y-Progressive swim lessons, private lessons, SAW (Safety Around Water) and community outreach for year-round indoor pool and outdoor pool.
- The Senior Aquatic Director will assist with hiring and utilize innovative recruiting strategies to staff the aquatic team.
- The Senior Aquatic Director is expected to work hands-on with aquatic programs when needed and fulfill general building director duties as assigned.
- The Senior Aquatic Director will also perform other duties, as assigned.
- Three or more years of aquatic management experience, required.
- Three or more years of YMCA director level experience, preferred. Ellis Lifeguard Certification will be trained.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer preferred.
- Proven skills in staff leadership and supervision, safety and risk management expertise, budget management and relationship building is needed to be successful in this position.
- The candidate must be a strong, organized individual, able to multi-task, have the ability to build staff teams and delegate, manage administrative duties that include scheduling, staff supervision and recognition, payroll and budget.
- Seeking a team player who is flexible with work schedule as evening and weekend coverage will be required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
