Water Security Strategy Advisor

• The Water Security Strategy Advisor Europe is responsible for driving The Nature Conservancy’s engagement and strategy with the water sector in Europe. S/he will develop and maintain strong relationships with keystone stakeholders within the utility sector to bring our solutions to the forefront of the sustainable development conversation. S/he will remain apprised of changes in the utility sector including new technologies, policies, players, and financial mechanisms that are applicable to our Water Security strategy. S/he will support fundraising efforts for the strategy, from both public and private actors principally in Europe.
• S/he will build relationships across the organization, especially within regions where s/he is unfamiliar with the water utility environment or market.  S/he will develop specific recommendations for the Global Water Security Managing Director and Europe Managing Director to validate, enhance or change the Global Theory of Change as it relates to investment in the water utility sector and Europe’s role within it.
• S/he will work closely with European leadership and colleagues to ensure a unified and coordinate approach to European entities.  S/he will advise and collaborate with Global Water team staff to progress our Theory of Change and inform our global science agenda. This position will report to the Europe Regional Managing Director with a dotted line reporting to global Water Security Managing Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

• Drives The Nature Conservancy’s engagement and strategy with the water sector in Europe.
• Develops productive, working relationships with new partners in Europe in support of the global water security strategy and open doors to new sector investors and utility sector relationships important in priority regions that TNC has identified for biodiversity conservation and water security.
• Supports fundraising efforts for the strategy, from both public and private actors principally in Europe
• Designs, implements and directs complex and diverse projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability.
• Makes strategic decisions based on analysis, experience and judgment.
• Incorporates cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.                                                                   
• Coordinates the work of other professionals, inside and outside of the organization.   
• Significant latitude to deal directly with field management personnel and organizational leadership.
• Requires willingness and ability to travel up to 50% and to work occasional weekends and evenings.
